Shreyanka Patil injury: India choose Prema Rawat as replacement for Women’s T20 World Cup
India have suffered a major blow in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, with off-spinner Shreyanka Patil ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an ankle injury. The all-rounder was injured during India’s Group A match against the Netherlands on Wednesday.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Event Technical Committee has approved leg spinner Prema Rawat as Patil’s replacement in the Indian squad. Rawat, who was already in England as part of the India A setup, will now link up with the senior team for the remainder of the tournament.
“The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Prema Rawat as the replacement for Shreyanka Patil in the Indian squad. Rawat was named as the replacement after Patil was ruled out due to a right ankle injury sustained while fielding in the match against the Netherlands on Wednesday,” an ICC statement read.
Although yet to make his international debut, the 24-year-old has earned recognition through strong domestic performances. She impressed in the Women’s Premier League before starring in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars competition, where she took eight wickets for India A at an average of 9.62.
In three matches for RCB during the 2025–26 season, Rawat took two wickets at an average of 8 and an economy rate under 6.
Patil’s latest injury comes just months after his return to international cricket following his first dismissal. He featured in India’s opening World Cup win over Pakistan and took 0 for 17 from his three overs.
