सरकार महिलाओं के आरक्षण को परिसीमन प्रक्रिया से अलग करने की योजना बना रही हैGovernment sources said they have already taken the initiative by contacting various opposition parties, including the Congress. “It is the government’s prerogative to decide the course of its agenda,” a senior official said on a demand for a meeting regarding the law providing 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The outreach comes amid growing indications that the government is planning to amend the Women’s Reservation Act to ensure speedy implementation, possibly by delinking it from the delimitation exercise. It will follow the decennial census, which is currently in the early stages of its implementation.Delimitation will not be a quick process. There may be opposition from the southern states as they fear that the allocation of Lok Sabha seats among the states on the basis of their population will reduce their representation in the lower house.Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in response to his letter demanding discussion on the “Nari Shakti Vandan Act”. He told Rijiju that he had already conveyed to him the Congress’ view that the government should call an all-party meeting to discuss the roadmap for implementation of the bill. He also expressed hope that such a meeting would be called as soon as possible.
