New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Wednesday, he had a telephone conversation with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Al-Khalid and extended his Eid greetings.During the conversation, PM Modi also condemned the attacks on Kuwait amid the ongoing conflict between the joint forces of America, Israel and Iran.In a social media post on X, PM Modi said, “Spoke with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of Kuwait and extended greetings on the upcoming festival of Eid. We exchanged views on the evolving situation in West Asia and shared concerns over recent developments. Reiterated India’s condemnation of the attacks on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kuwait. Strait of Hormuz It is our duty to ensure safe and free navigation through India.”“We agreed that continued diplomatic engagement is essential for regional peace and stability. I thanked them for their continued support for the security and well-being of the Indian community in Kuwait,” he said.On Monday, PM Modi also spoke to UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and reiterated India’s strong condemnation of all attacks on the Gulf country, which have resulted in the loss of innocent lives and damage to civilian infrastructure.The talks came amid reports of fresh attacks by Iranian drones on the country’s energy infrastructure.The PM said in a post on X that the leaders agreed on the importance of ensuring safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.PM Modi wished the President on Eid, saying, “We will continue to work together for the early restoration of peace, security and stability in the region.” India has an important energy partnership with the United Arab Emirates, which, according to the Government of India, is the fourth largest source of crude oil and the second largest source of LNG and LPG for India.Apart from the safety of the diaspora, India’s immediate concern about the conflict is the potential impact on its LPG supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively blocked.As the government said earlier this week, India has chosen talks and diplomacy with Tehran to address its concerns rather than entertain any idea about joining the US-led military alliance to secure the key waterway.In any case, the proposal to send warships has found few takers among America’s NATO allies.
