Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections: 32 habitual criminals arrested in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Coimbatore district police have arrested 32 people identified as habitual criminals ahead of the assembly elections. These arrests were made as part of intense precautionary measures to maintain law and order and ensure a peaceful election environment in the district. District Superintendent of Police Dr K Karthikeyan ordered a special investigation to keep an eye on habitual criminals and history-sheeters involved in criminal activities. Acting on the instructions issued to all sub-divisional police officers, a coordinated investigation was conducted in the entire district this week. During these operations, 32 people identified as habitual offenders were arrested and legal action was initiated against them.

Cases were registered under various sections of the law. Seven cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Of those arrested, 22 have been remanded to judicial custody, while 10 habitual offenders have been bound under Section 110 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to prevent them from indulging in further criminal activities.The district police have said that constant surveillance, intensive patrolling and strict enforcement measures will be maintained to ensure that no law and order problems arise during the election period. Police have said that similar investigations will continue and election-related precautionary measures will be further intensified.
