Fort Bend County Judge KP George, a prominent Indian-origin Democrat, has been found guilty of money laundering after he stole from his donors by making two transfers of $46,500 from his campaign account to his personal account. However, his lawyer protested that this was not theft but repayment. George was facing two felony charges of money laundering, and was found guilty of a third-degree felony, which carries a sentence of two to 10 years behind bars.According to the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, George will not be released until the trial is completed, which is when he is sentenced. George can then be removed from office, but can remain a judge if he appeals his conviction. However, the DA’s office can ask for a suspension.The defense said George had borrowed his own money for his campaign and later paid it himself, which his lawyers described as a normal and legitimate practice. His legal team also argued that the case was politically motivated, claiming that the District Attorney’s office targeted George and then worked backwards to find something to charge him with.This is not the first time George has had to run into trouble with the law. In 2023, she was convicted, along with her former chief of staff, Taral Patel, of making fake racist attacks by creating fake social media accounts against George’s 2022 campaign.

Who is KP George??

KP George is the first person of South Asian descent to serve as a Fort Bend County judge when he was elected to the post in 2019 and then re-elected in 2022. He was born in Kerala, India and later came to the United States on a visa in 1993 to work for a financial firm. After working for a financial firm for several years, he opened his own financial planning business. He and his wife Sheeba moved to Sugar Land, Texas in 1999. KP has always been involved in the Indian-American community – Sugar Land Rotary Club, Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, etc.
