LPG crisis: No relief for restaurants yet
Mumbai/Bengaluru: The restaurant industry is struggling to run regular operations due to low supply of LPG cylinders. Officials said that with the government’s move to increase commercial LPG allocation to 70%, it will take some time for this measure to actually translate into continuous supply. “Supply is still extremely limited and irregular. A sense of uncertainty is prevalent,” said Anurag Katriyar, founder of Indigo Hospitality. The key question is how quickly this revised allocation will translate into on-ground availability, said Pradeep Shetty, vice-president, Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI).A stroll along 12th Main in Indiranagar, known for its cluster of independent restaurants, reveals the tension. “It’s all hand-to-mouth at the moment,” said Nikhil Gupta, who runs brands including Pizza Bakery and Paris Panini. Wow! Sagar Daryani, co-founder and CEO, said the move will not directly help the restaurant sector, which is still getting 20%-30% of LPG supply! Momo Foods and President of National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI). Daryani said state-wise, the supply situation varies, such as in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan the allocation for restaurants is limited, causing losses to the sector.
