15 lakh voters of Bengal in confusion due to missing e-signature. india news
Kolkata: Judicial authorities have disposed of 37 lakh “under-judgment” voter cases in Bengal, but only 22 lakh names appear in the two supplementary voter lists, leaving around 15 lakh cases unresolved due to missing e-signatures.The EC published the third list late on Saturday night, but there was no clarity on the number of names listed. An Election Commission official said that supplementary lists will be published every day from now on.
Election Commission officials said 60 lakh voters were initially marked for scrutiny after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the rolls, with over 700 judicial officers appointed to review them. By the evening of 23 March, about 29 lakh cases had been disposed of. Bengal CEO Manoj Aggarwal said the names with e-signatures by 5 pm will be published in the first supplementary list. The list released around midnight contained around 10 lakh names.
Third list released
This difference remained intact in the second list also. Officials said 37 lakh cases had been disposed of till Friday evening, suggesting the remaining 27 lakh should be included in the next publication. However, there were only 12 lakh names in the list. “We received 12 lakh cases with e-signature and published accordingly,” a senior Election Commission official said on Saturday. He did not give any explanation for the absence of e-signature on the remaining 15 lakh disposed cases. An EC source said the digital signature functionality was introduced late in the judgment software, as many authorities had already disposed of cases in the specified sections. Those cases will be referred back to the authorities.
