JioStar has ended its broadcast agreement with a local partner in Bangladesh, a move that means the Indian Premier League (IPLAccording to Reuters report, this season will not be shown in the country.Tension had arisen between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from his contract following the earlier ban on IPL telecast in Bangladesh.“The agreement is terminated with immediate effect,” a letter from JioStar to Bangladesh broadcaster TSports said, as cited by Reuters. The local company had obtained the sub-license of IPL rights for the period from 2023 to 2027.JioStar cited financial issues as the reason behind the move, saying its partner had “continued failure and default in adhering to the payment timelines stipulated under the agreement”.The decision also applies to the Women’s Premier League (WPL), with the broadcaster ending arrangements for both tournaments in Bangladesh on an equal basis.The situation comes amid strained relations between India and Bangladesh following the political transition in Dhaka in August 2024, when former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country following a large-scale uprising.The initial broadcast ban in early 2026 was triggered by the controversy surrounding Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.20 crore. Following the instructions of BCCI, the franchise finally released him.
