Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan pay tribute to SP Balasubramaniam; ‘He brought happiness to millions,’ say legends tamil movie news
A grand tribute program was recently organized in Kerala in honor of legendary singer SP Balasubramaniam. On March 31, a 10-foot statue of the late singer was unveiled at the VT Bhattathiripad Cultural Complex in Palakkad. The statue was inaugurated by Oscar-winning musician MM Keeravani on behalf of ‘Samam’, an organization of Malayalam playback singers. The event was attended by many prominent singers and SPB family members, including his son SP Charan. Popular singers like Hariharan and KS Chitra also participated in the event. Later, a grand musical tribute called “Sangeetha Megham” was organized at a nearby ground, where more than 50 singers presented songs in the memory of SPB. The event is considered to be one of the biggest musical tributes organized in Kerala for the iconic singer.
Rajinikanth recalls a special memory with SP Balasubramaniam
Superstar Rajinikanth and actor Kamal Haasan were also invited to attend the tribute event. However, both the actors could not attend in person due to their schedules. Rather, they published emotional video clips remembering SP Balasubramaniam and his contribution towards music. In his video message, Rajinikanth spoke warmly about the singer’s talent and kind nature. According to Nakkheeran, he said, “There is no one in India who does not know S.” P. Balasubramaniam. With his voice and talent he gave happiness to millions of people.” The actor also shared a personal memory. “Once I was traveling from the United States to Chennai and I had to come to Mumbai. It was around 1.30 in the morning when SPB boarded the flight,” he recalled.
Rajinikanth praised SPB’s humility and dedication
Rajinikanth further narrated how the passengers on the flight recognized SPB and requested him to sing. The songs of the film Shankarabharanam were very popular at that time. Rajinikanth said, “On the flight, people asked him to sing the Shankarabharanam song. When he sang it once, everyone kept asking for ‘one more time’.” According to him, SPB sang happily for about one and a half hours till the flight reached Chennai. “He never showed fatigue and kept singing to make everyone happy. This shows what a wonderful human being he was,” Rajinikanth said. He also said that building a statue in Palakkad is a beautiful way to ensure that the great singer will never be forgotten.
Kamal Haasan expresses deep emotional bond with spb
Actor Kamal Haasan also shared an emotional video message during the event. He thanked the organizers and the people of Palakkad for honoring SP Balasubramaniam in such a grand manner. Kamal Haasan said, “Only great human beings can become great artists. This tribute proves how much people love him.” He also spoke about the personal bond he shares with the singer. “Everyone knows how passionate I am about SPB. I always called him ‘Annaya’ and he lovingly called me ‘Thammudu’,” he shared. Kamal said such expressions show that people still have deep affection for the great singer and his unforgettable music.
