New Delhi: Congress MP and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi Vowed on Monday that if his party comes to power, Puducherry will be given full statehood. Addressing an election rally at Lawspet, he said, “We are committed to give full statehood to Puducherry.”Rahul Gandhi alleged that the present Union Territory government does not reflect the will of the people but has been imposed from Delhi. He accused the BJP of sidelining regional leaders and running the UT with remote control.He said, “Everyone knows that 30% commission is taken on all contracts. The government here has become a collection agent. The government in Puducherry is not an expression of the people, but is imposed from Delhi; BJP is running the state with ‘remote control’.”Highlighting the Congress’ promises for the UT, he said, “What is the Congress coalition government going to do for Puducherry? We are going to give Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to unemployed youth, create 30,000 new jobs in the public and private sectors, and women will travel free in Puducherry buses. We are going to give relaxation in entry into government jobs till the age of 40. Rs 20 lakh will be given to every family in Puducherry. There will be available health insurance worth Rs.Rahul Gandhi urged voters to support the Congress and its alliance candidates and promised a government that truly represents the voice of the local people.Addressing the public, he said, “Whenever I come, wherever I go, you give me tremendous love.”Puducherry Assembly elections will be held for 30 seats, with voting taking place in a single phase on April 9 and counting of votes on May 4.
