New Delhi: Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was questioned as to why he did not heed Pakistan’s threat to attack Kolkata.Addressing an election rally in Nadia district, he said, “You (Prime Minister) target Bengal during election rallies, but when Pakistan talks about attacking Bengal, you do not utter a single word. You should resign.“Expressing concern over the Centre’s response, he raised questions PM ModiHe maintained silence on the issue during his recent rally in Cooch Behar.“Why did the Prime Minister not raise this issue during his rally in Bengal? When the Defense Minister of Pakistan says they will attack Kolkata, why did the Prime Minister not say ‘we will take strong action’?”Banerjee stressed that threats to the country and the state will not be tolerated. “Just as we do not accept any threat to the country, we will not tolerate any threat to Kolkata,” he said.His comments came after Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif warned that Islamabad would respond with strikes on Kolkata in case of any ‘future misadventure’ by India.Speaking to reporters in Sialkot, Asif said, “If India tries to conduct a false flag operation this time, God willing, we will take it to Kolkata.”The statement comes after heightened tensions between India and Pakistan in recent months, with both sides issuing stern warnings. Responding to India’s stance on cross-border threats, Asif had earlier described Pakistan’s response to any Indian action as “swift, balanced and decisive”.India has said it will respond strongly to any cross-border threat, while also reiterating that it does not differentiate between terrorist groups and those supporting them.(With inputs from PTI)
