Police station doubles as LPG distribution center in Rohtas. patna news
Sasaram: In an unusual move, the district police set up an LPG distribution counter inside the Kochas police station premises, sparking a discussion among local residents. The counter was set up in the police station near Gangwalia forest along the Sasaram-Chausa road in Kochas in the same police station area of Rohtas district after consumers accused the HP Gas Agency employees of irregularities and arbitrariness in cylinder distribution. Angered by the alleged mismanagement, a large number of consumers protested on Wednesday and blocked the main road.On receiving the information, police officers reached the spot and restored order and seized the truck loaded with LPG cylinders from the agency and brought it to Kochas police station. At first the crowd dispersed, but by evening the news spread that LPG would be distributed in the police station premises.Due to this, crowds of consumers started arriving with their empty cylinders, leading to long queues on the road. Due to heavy turnout, there was traffic jam and vehicular movement was disrupted for about two hours.Consumers allege that before the distribution started, some cylinders were kept aside by the authorities for personal use. After this, the formal distribution process started inside Kochas police station in the presence of Supply Officer Surbhi Raj, station in-charge and agency staff.
However, limited space within the complex led to chaos and overcrowding. Many consumers said that such traffic problems could have been avoided if the distribution was done in the block office premises. Despite the distribution continuing till late night, many consumers could not get the cylinders due to the stock being exhausted.Residents also reported that deployment of police personnel for distribution led to traffic jam near Mahatma Gandhi Chowk, where vehicles were stranded for hours.Meanwhile, SDPO Kumar Vaibhav said that the distribution at Kochas police station was done on the instructions of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Sasaram. The SDPO said that the allegations of reserving cylinders for personal use by police personnel have been taken seriously and are currently being investigated.
