CBFC denies role in ‘Jana Nayakan’ leak, calls claims baseless. india news
New Delhi: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Saturday rejected claims that Tamil film “Jana Nayagan” was leaked from its system, calling them “baseless and misleading” and saying its certification process follows a secure, access-controlled protocol. This clarification comes amid the controversy over the alleged online leak of the film in high-definition format, which has sparked outrage among fans and industry stakeholders.Explaining its process, the CBFC said that all films submitted for certification are secured through a Key Delivery Message (KDM) mechanism, with password-protected access strictly controlled by the producer or filmmaker. “Without a valid KDM, the content cannot be accessed or viewed,” officials said, underlining that the board does not retain independent access once the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) is handed over.According to the CBFC, the DCP of “Jan Nayagan” was formally handed over to the applicant in Mumbai on March 17 with due acknowledgement, and since then he has remained with them, with the possibility of any violation being ruled out at its end.The controversy comes after reports that the big budget film, starring Vijay, had surfaced online as a brief five-minute clip before turning into a full-length leak on piracy websites. The leaked footage reportedly included key sequences such as the title introduction and parts of the climax, raising concerns about internal security lapses within the production or distribution chain.Director H Vinoth urged the audience not to stream the leaked content, saying that each scene represents the effort of hundreds of people. Several industry voices reiterated the appeal, calling for restraint and strict enforcement against piracy. The incident has also sparked calls for swift legal action, with fans demanding accountability and stricter security measures. The makers are understood to be exploring options to reduce losses, including pushing back the release timeline.
