At the rally, PM Modi said, “The security of the country is paramount for us. BJP resolves to implement UCC in West Bengal to end the politics of appeasement forever.”His comments come after the BJP in its ‘Sankalp Patra’ promised to implement the UCC along with a series of governance and security reforms within six months of government formation. The party has framed the election as a defining moment for Bengal’s political direction, alleging corruption, lawlessness and demographic change under the Trinamool Congress (TMC).In response to the ‘Sankalp Patra’, the Bengal CM opposed the implementation of the Civil Code Bill. Addressing a gathering at Keshiyari in West Medinipur district, Banerjee accused the BJP of pushing the resolution without consensus and warned that it would be reversed if political equations change at the Centre.Speaking at the rally, he said, “They have talked about UCC (Uniform Civil Code) in the manifesto. I will strongly oppose this. They are in majority today, so they will pass the bill. Tomorrow when they will not be in majority, we will cancel the bill. “As long as they remain, free and fair elections are not possible.”Banerjee also raised concerns over the timing of electoral processes and policy and alleged that major decisions are being pushed through without debate during the ongoing election cycle.He said, “Elections are going on and in the meantime they are bringing the delimitation bill in Parliament. There was no debate on this. The reason behind this is that they want to divide Bengal and conduct NRC here. I repeat it, BJP will go away one day very soon.”Expanding her attack, Banerjee criticized the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, alleging manipulation and deletion of voters’ names.He said, “Our fight is with ‘Vanish Kumar’ (referring to CEC Gyanesh Kumar). SIR is a huge scam. This is not a SIR but an attempt to bring BJP to power.” This is a name removal scam. 90 lakh names have been removed.”He further alleged attempts to target him politically, saying, “Two false affidavits were filed to cancel my candidature from Bhabanipur. They could not do it, but imagine if they can do it against me, what they can do against others.”

On its part, the BJP has doubled down on its campaign narrative, with the PM accusing the TMC of relying on “infiltrators”, promoting corruption and failing to maintain law and order. He also alleged that the violence during Ram Navami processions in the state is in contrast to the peaceful celebrations elsewhere in the country.Assembly elections in West Bengal are to be held on April 23 and 29, while counting of votes is on May 4.
