Bengal Assembly elections: EC says over 3.6 crore voters eligible for first phase of voting on April 23

New Delhi: More than 3.6 crore voters from 16 districts are eligible to vote in the first phase of West Bengal Assembly elections on April 23. Election Commission.The voter list for the phase includes 1.84 crore men, 1.75 crore women and 465 third gender voters, reflecting a broad and inclusive voter base.Voting will be held on 152 seats in the first phase, while the remaining 142 constituencies will go to polls in the second phase on April 29. Counting of votes is to take place on May 4.Among the districts, Murshidabad has the highest number of voters at 50.26 lakh, followed by East Medinipur with 41.60 lakh and West Medinipur with 37.70 lakh. Kalimpong has the lowest number of voters at 2.01 lakh.In North Bengal, Cooch Behar has 22.63 lakh voters, while Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar have 17.19 lakh and 11.64 lakh voters respectively. There are 11.10 lakh voters in Darjeeling district.Uttar Dinajpur has 19.68 lakh voters, while Dakshin Dinajpur has 11.59 lakh voters. The number of voters in Malda district is 27.91 lakh.In the western districts, there are 29.19 lakh voters in Bankura, 22.52 lakh in Purulia and 9.10 lakh in Jhargram. Paschim Bardhaman has 19.65 lakh voters, while Birbhum has 26.91 lakh voters.An Election Commission official said the roll has been updated to ensure accuracy and participation. “Updated after appropriate revision and verification to ensure maximum accuracy and inclusivity”.“All necessary measures have been taken to ensure that eligible voters can participate in the democratic process without any inconvenience,” the official said.
