Ahead of women’s quota bill session, PM Modi extends direct reach | india news
New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi Especially amid critical voices from the opposition over the possible delimitation exercise, he will on Monday address eminent personalities and women achievers from various fields as he steps up his direct reach out to the people to garner support for bills proposing implementation of women’s quota in assemblies from 2029. The bill, which is expected to be taken up on April 16 during a special sitting of Parliament, proposes to fine-tune the implementation of the law, which provides for reservation of one-third seats for women in the Lok Sabha and assemblies from the 2029 national elections. “The event will be attended by eminent personalities and successful women from various fields. It will bring together representatives from various sectors like government, education, science, sports, entrepreneurship, media, social work and culture,” the statement said. With the united opposition poised to deny the government the two-thirds majority required to pass the constitutional amendment bill, especially in the Lok Sabha, Modi has turned to garnering public support to increase the political cost to his rivals in case the move is opposed. She has also talked about the women’s quota bill in her recent political rallies.
