Saudi Arabia has achieved a major environmental feat by converting barren land into green cover on a large scale. This progress reflects a long-term national effort to restore ecosystems, expand vegetation, and combat desertification.Saudi Arabia has restored one million hectares of degraded land and planted more than 159 million trees, a significant milestone under the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) launched in 2021 by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The initiative aims to plant 10 billion trees, which is equivalent to rehabilitating 40 million hectares across the state.Abdulrahman Alfadli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, said the achievement reflects the leadership’s commitment to environmental sustainability under Saudi Vision 2030. He said restoration efforts started with just 18,000 hectares, then expanded to 250,000 hectares by 2024, before reaching the one million hectare mark in early 2026.Highlighting the initiative’s role in conserving biodiversity and native flora, he said progress has been driven by coordination between government entities, the private sector and the community. He also pointed to the importance of royal reserves and modern water harvesting techniques in sustaining these efforts. “This success is a symbol of a unified national effort,” Alfadale said. He said this work is strengthening wildlife conservation and ecosystem resilience.Current progress sets the stage for the next target of 25 lakh hectares by 2030, supported by projects such as dam water utilization and rain harvesting, which is expected to support long-term expansion of green cover.Deputy Minister Eng. Mansour Almushtaiti described the milestone as a “qualitative leap” towards the state’s ambitious goals. He said this is in line with SGI’s goal of planting 10 billion trees and rehabilitating 40 million hectares, while also highlighting special programs such as the National Cloud Seeding Programme, which has boosted rainfall and contributed to a 50 percent reduction in dust storms in 2025 compared to the previous year. This achievement has also received international recognition. Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), praised Saudi Arabia’s efforts, saying it reflected a unified approach and clear political will. “This achievement proves that land restoration is possible even in the most challenging environments,” he said.He also said the Kingdom’s efforts contribute to strengthening international cooperation on land restoration through the Middle East Green Initiative and its hosting of UNCCD’s COP16.

How to avoid clogged pores and maintain clear skin

How to avoid clogged pores and maintain clear skin
Maintaining clear skin includes protecting your natural barrier with natural oils and using a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser twice a day. It’s important to choose mild skin care products with ingredients like aloe vera and green tea and remove makeup thoroughly. Hydrating and moisturizing with lukewarm water after cleansing, along with professional treatment for stubborn problems, ensures healthy, glowing skin.

Maintaining a regular skin care routine won’t always prevent that heavy, congested feeling. This is mainly caused by clogged pores, which are tiny holes in our skin that help drain sweat and oil. However, clogged pores can cause inflammation in our skin, resulting in redness and even damage. To maintain the health of your skin, prioritize prevention so that your skin retains its natural glow. Here are some scientifically supported preventive measures that individuals can adopt to make their skin clear.

Necessary steps to keep pores clean

The first step to preventing clogged pores is to protect your skin’s natural barrier by using natural oils like cold-pressed coconut, almond, sesame or mustard oil, which help nourish and protect your skin, as well as provide a protective layer to prevent dust and other impurities from accumulating. Try applying a thin layer before bed or when going out to keep your skin soft, hydrated and less prone to breakouts.

The next step is to cleanse your face at least twice a day using a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser that suits your skin type. It helps remove excess oil, sweat and dirt that can clog pores. It’s also important to avoid harsh soaps and harsh foaming cleansers, as they can strip the skin of its natural oils. When this happens, the skin often produces more oil to compensate, which can lead to more clogged pores.

Choose skin care products wisely

What you put on your skin can either help keep your pores clear or make them worse. Some skin care products contain heavy oils, harsh chemicals, and fragrances, which can irritate your skin and clog your pores. To keep it clear, it is advisable to include mild, non-comedogenic skin care products containing aloe vera, turmeric, rosehip, green tea and hyaluronic acid in your skin care regimen. These products are perfect for individuals with acne as they help soothe your skin, reduce irritation, and keep your pores clean without clogging them.Wearing makeup for a long time can clog your pores if not removed properly. Therefore, always choose oil-free, lightweight or acne-friendly makeup and make sure to clean it thoroughly at night. You can do this by first cleansing twice with an oil-based cleanser, then using a mild water-based cleanser to wash off the rest of the product. Following this step can keep your pores clear and help prevent breakouts.

Gentle cleaning and aftercare

Washing the face alone is not enough to control pores. It is equally important to pay attention to hydrating and soothing the skin immediately after washing. Don’t use very hot water as high temperatures can open up your pores, making it easier for dirt to get trapped inside. Additionally, you can use lukewarm water, as it is gentle and maintains moisture in the skin. After drying your face, apply a small amount of moisturizer containing natural ingredients like aloe vera or green tea. It helps retain moisture on your face without any heavy buildup. If your skin suffers from stubborn problems like large pores or frequent breakouts, incorporating professional treatments can heal your skin and improve its health. Advanced treatments like deep-cleansing facials, chemical peels or Profilo can hydrate the skin from within, maintain even texture and make pores appear smaller. Following the right skin care steps along with professional skin care treatments can make a big difference in keeping your skin healthy and clear.

Healthy skin is not an impossible dream, as following a simple skin care regimen along with strict daily exercises leads to glass skin. Breakouts can be avoided by keeping your skin moisturized by using appropriate products, gently cleansing your face, and avoiding harsh substances. It’s a combination of making the right decisions every day that can help you achieve healthy and glowing skin while improving texture and tone.Inputs by Dr. Deepam Shah, MD, DNB FAM, Dermatologist, Cosmetologist, Hair Transplant Surgeon, Viva Aesthetic Clinic

IPL 2026: RCB’s Jacob Duffy praises captain Rajat Patidar for brilliant debut spell against SRH

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) started their title defense with a 6-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the season opener, thanks to a brilliant start from New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy. The Kiwis took 3 important wickets of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy in their four overs, while conceding only 22 runs.

While the Chinnaswamy Stadium had already got a new favorite in Duffy, Who did more than just fill in for Josh Hazlewood who has yet to be clearedRCB captain Rajat Patidar praised the New Zealand fast bowler for taking advantage of the opportunity. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Patidar stressed that both he and the team management had full confidence in Duffy’s T20 bowling abilities.

“As we all know, he is a specialist T20 bowler,” RCB captain Rajat Patidar said in the post-match press conference. “We have a lot of confidence in him and that’s why we have given him a chance. The way he has been performing well and showing his skills, I think it was tremendous.”

How Duffy stole the show in RCB vs SRH

Duffy, who had endured a tough outing in the T20 World Cup final against India just three weeks before the IPL opener where he took 0 for 42 from three overs, decided to stick to his strengths.

“I tried to keep things quite simple,” Duffy said after receiving player of the match for his powerful opening spell. “The plan was to use the new ball, especially since it works a bit in Bengaluru. We talked a lot about the length and what works on this surface.”

While Duffy’s spirited debut was the story of the daySome credit for RCB’s bowling performance against SRH also goes to Hazlewood himself. Duffy himself has acknowledged the stature of the Australian fast bowler, who is currently working his way back to full fitness after battling a hamstring injury and Achilles problems that ruled him out of the domestic Ashes and the recent T20 World Cup.

“Josh Hazlewood had a really good season here last year, so it was about taking what he did well and trying to replicate it in his own way,” Duffy said.

Despite not being available for selection, Hazlewood played an important role behind the scenes after joining the team ahead of the opener.

“In the last practice session before the game, I think Hazlewood spent a lot of time with the fast bowlers and his inputs definitely helped him (in his performance against SRH),” Patidar said during his press conference.

Duffy’s impressive spell, which included key wickets of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy, ensured that SRH could never fully recover from the early shock. His ability to hit tough lengths, gain bounce and make quick adjustments when put under pressure came to the fore, giving RCB not only a short-term replacement but also a genuine bowling option when Hazlewood returned.

A 3,800-year-old city in Peru reveals a mysterious civilization that flourished in one of the harshest deserts on Earth. world News

A 3,800-year-old city in Peru reveals a mysterious civilization that flourished in one of the harshest deserts on Earth.

The desert doesn’t usually give things back easily. Wind scratches the surface, heat bends the horizon, and whatever once stood there is buried forever. Yet something unexpected has emerged in the dry hills of Peru. Discovered in 2025, the site known as Penico is already driving the conversation about early civilizations in the Americas. It’s not just its age, some 3,800 years, but the story it seems to tell. One of adaptation, of survival without violence. Experts suggest it could force a rethink of how complex societies developed in this part of the world.

Penico Archaeological Site Organized life revealed in Peru’s harsh Supe Valley

Penico is located in the Supe Valley, a few hours north of Lima, in a landscape that seems almost hostile to life. The dry slopes stretch endlessly, and dust hangs in the air. This is not the type of place where you would expect a structured settlement to exist.According to BBC report, archaeologists led by Ruth Shady unearthed about 18 structures here. Temple. housing complex. Open grounds where meetings or rituals were held. The layout seems deliberate. Thought carefully. Not chaotic. There is a sense that this was a space created for shared purpose rather than control.

Penico reveals links to 5,000-year-old Caral civilization in Peru

To understand Penico, it helps to look back. Long before the Inca civilization or the Maya civilization, the region was home to the Caral civilization. One of the oldest known in the Americas. Its main centre, Caral-Supe, is about 5,000 years old. This places it with the early urban societies of Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. Carol seems to have developed differently. No defensive walls. No obvious signs of weapons. Instead, researchers found evidence of trade networks extending from the Pacific coast to the Andes and even the Amazon. Cotton, crops, marine resources were exchanged in different areas.

Penico provides insight into ancient climate survival without war

About 4,000 years ago, the climate changed. There was a drought in this area for a long time. The rivers dried up. Fields failed. Food became scarce. For many ancient societies, this is where things break down. It appears that Carroll has taken another route. Evidence suggests that people did not attack each other. Instead, they left. Well Adjust. Customised. Penico appears to be part of that response, having been built above and close to glacier-fed water sources. What stands out about Penico is what is missing. No strong walls. No weapon has been recovered yet. This is not absolute proof of peace, but it is effective, especially during times of crisis. Researchers say the community may have focused on solidarity. Trade relations continued. The culture did not fade away. Artifacts found at the site indicate this. Clay statues. Beaded jewellery. Carved bones. One statue reportedly shows the head of a woman with an elaborate hairstyle, painted red with mineral pigment. It feels expressive. Almost personal.Excavations are still ongoing at Penico. Large parts of the site are buried beneath the desert. What has been received so far is just a glimpse.
