New Delhi: Following the recent developments on March 18, an Indian national died in Riyadh, the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia confirmed in an official statement.The Mission confirmed that it is in touch with the family of the deceased as well as local authorities and is providing all necessary assistance. It also expressed condolences and said it was closely coordinating with Saudi authorities regarding the matter.
“The Embassy of India expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic demise of an Indian national in Riyadh due to the recent events on 18th March.”“The Embassy is in touch with the family and local authorities. We are committed to providing all possible assistance in this matter,” it said. The update comes amid ongoing concerns over Indian nationals in the region after Iran launched missiles and drones at its Gulf neighbors following the strikes on Tehran by Israel and the US. The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia is closely monitoring the situation and providing consular assistance as needed.Meanwhile, the External Affairs Ministry said a total of six Indian nationals were killed and one is missing in separate incidents in the Gulf region amid the Middle East conflict.The Ministry of External Affairs said Indian missions are coordinating with local authorities for assistance and repatriation. Addressing the inter-ministerial briefing, Asim R Mahajan, Additional Secretary (Gulf) in the Ministry of External Affairs, said Indian missions in several countries worked closely with the authorities to trace the missing person and facilitate the return of the deceased to India.Mahajan said, “Unfortunately six Indian nationals have lost their lives, and one is missing in separate incidents. Our missions in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq and the UAE are in regular touch with the concerned authorities regarding the missing Indian nationals and to expeditiously repatriate the remains of the deceased Indian nationals to India.”An External Affairs Ministry official said the travel situation from the Gulf region is gradually improving, with a large number of travelers already returning to India.“The situation continues to improve with additional flights being operated from the region. Around 300,000 passengers have returned to India from the region since February 28,” the MEA official said.According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE airlines were continuing to operate limited non-scheduled flights based on operational and security considerations.“From UAE, airlines continue to operate limited non-scheduled flights based on operational and security considerations. Today, again, around 90 flights to India are expected to be operated from various airports in UAE,” he said.
