Tests confirmed the strain and the Lakers decided not to take any risks. Since then, his position has remained the same, and there has been no change before this game.

Los Angeles Lakers missing multiple players in final game (April 12, 2026)

Meet Mike Egan: Marine veteran who lost his legs in an explosion completes 110 miles, beating 117 athletes in brutal 27-hour race

Meet Mike Egan: Marine veteran who lost his legs in an explosion completes 110 miles, beating 117 athletes in brutal 27-hour race

US Marine veteran Mike Egan, who lost both his legs in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast while serving in Afghanistan, has received widespread attention for an extraordinary feat of endurance at the Go One More Ultra. Competing in a last-man-standing format, Egan covered more than 110 miles in 27 consecutive hours using a wheelchair, placing among the top 28, besting 117 other participants. The race required athletes to complete a 4.2-mile loop every hour, pushing both physical and mental limits. At one point, when his wheelchair got stuck in the mud, Egan was seen pulling himself forward to walk forward, a moment that has since been widely echoed as a symbol of resilience.Go One More Ultra is structured to test endurance in its purest form. Participants must complete a 4.2-mile loop at the beginning of each hour, with only time left for rest before the start of the next loop. There is no definite finish line; The race continues until only one contestant remains. This format creates cumulative fatigue, forcing athletes to manage long periods of speed, recovery, and sleep deprivation. For Egan, completing 27 consecutive loops meant continuing the effort for more than an entire day with minimal recovery time.

Mike Egan’s journey from blast injury to 110-mile endurance feat

Egan’s journey into endurance sports began in 2012 after suffering a life-changing injury. While deployed to Afghanistan, he was seriously injured in an IED blast, resulting in the loss of both legs and numerous other injuries. He underwent more than 40 surgeries during a long and complex recovery process before being medically retired in 2014. Rehabilitation required rebuilding strength, mobility and independence, laying the foundation for her subsequent transition into competitive fitness and endurance challenges. After recovering, Egan became involved in adaptive sports, particularly CrossFit and endurance training. He developed the upper body strength and stamina needed to compete in physically demanding competitions using a wheelchair. His training focused not only on physical conditioning but also mental flexibility, a quality that would prove essential in long-term competitions. Over time, he established himself within the adaptive athletics community as an athlete willing to take on extreme challenges. Before the Go One More Ultra, Egan had already accomplished a major feat. In November 2025, he set a Guinness World Record by traveling 152.37 miles in a wheelchair in a 24-hour period. That performance demonstrated his ability to maintain a high level of output over extended periods and ranked him among elite endurance athletes. His latest performance reinforces that ability in even more unpredictable race conditions.

The moment that defined the race

During the ultra race, the challenging terrain added another layer of difficulty. In the muddy conditions, Egan’s wheelchair became stuck, threatening to end his race. Instead of retreating, he got up from the chair and moved forward, dragging himself on the ground to complete the loop within the required time. This moment captured the essence of the demands of the race and highlighted the level of determination required to continue in the face of adversity.

mike egan

Egan’s performance is remarkable not only for the distance covered but also for the circumstances under which it was achieved. Competing in a non-adaptive race format, he faced the same structure and time constraints as all other participants while managing additional physical challenges. The combination of sustained effort, limited recovery and environmental obstacles underscores the level of stamina required to complete 110 miles in 27 hours.Responses to Egan’s achievement focused on themes of perseverance and resilience. His journey from war injury to endurance competition reflects a broader story of recovery and adaptation. As more people connect with his story, it continues to highlight the possibilities within adaptive sports and the ability of individuals to move beyond traditional boundaries.

Flow disrupted: Lifeline of 1.5 crore people facing drought. Lucknow news

Lucknow: Gomti, the lifeline of 1.5 crore people and home to over 200 species of flora and fauna, is gradually drying up due to multiple reasons, mostly human activity and some natural factors, a recent field survey conducted by a team of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) has revealed. The survey covered the origin of the river in Pilibhit and the districts through which it flows, such as Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur and Hardoi. In Pilibhit, an area of about 15 km near the source was found dry due to very low water at the source (Phulhar Lake) and disruption in natural flow. The river flow was also slow in Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri and Sitapur. The river was found to be shallow and narrow in many stretches, leading to the spread of invasive plants such as water hyacinth. Congress grass was also found in abundance on some beaches, disrupting natural vegetation growth. These conditions were observed at several locations, including Fulhar Lake (Madhotanda, Pilibhit), Triveni Ghat (Ghatampur), Panna Ghat (Shahjahanpur), Imalia Ghat (Lakhimpur Kheri) and stretches of Sitapur and Hardoi, where low flows and eroded banks have allowed invasive species to spread. In these areas, encroachment was recorded through deforestation of natural vegetation, unprotected wetlands and farming and construction on both banks, further weakening the river system. The survey also found that many tributaries of Gomti are under stress. The Katna stream in Pipariya Bhaja (Pilibhit) has become seasonal and remains almost dry or stagnant during non-monsoon months, while the Bhainsi river in Shahjahanpur often dries up in summer.Due to encroachment and sand mining in the Durga River near Sukatiya (Pilibhit-Lakhimpur Kheri section) the depth has reduced and the flow is slow. Similarly, the flow of the Behta River in Hardoi has weakened due to land leveling for farming, which suggests that many tributaries either carry very little water or face periodic drying up.The survey also revealed that excessive groundwater absorption near the river has caused irreversible damage to the baseflow, resulting in water depletion in the river. There is a possibility of increase especially at the Sharda Canal bifurcation point at Puranpur (Madhotanda, Pilibhit) and through Devipur Minor near Phulhar Lake. However, during periods of low flow this water does not return adequately, leading to reduced flows in Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur and Hardoi.pollution The level was found high at many places along the banks of Gomti. At Triveni Ghat (Ghatampur, Pilibhit) and Panna Ghat (Shahjahanpur), the river has been polluted due to dumping of ritual waste, flowers, clothes and plastic associated with religious activities. At Imalia Ghat (Lakhimpur Kheri), picnic and recreational waste, especially thermocol plates and single-use plastics, were observed along the banks. In Sitapur, the Sarayan River near Hargaon – a major tributary – is polluted by untreated waste water and agricultural runoff from about 40 drains as well as effluent from a sugar mill, leading to algae growth. In Hardoi, faecal pollution due to open defecation was observed in Sai river in Bhajehata. In many parts of Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur and Hardoi, household waste and plastic waste were also found along the river banks, mainly due to poor waste management and low water flow, which reduces the natural ability of the river to clean itself.“Human behaviour, lack of coordination among officials and administrative negligence have contributed to Gomti’s current condition,” said Professor Venkatesh Dutta, head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, who led the survey. He said the river can still be revived by ensuring minimum flow at the source of Phulhar Lake. Researchers Rakesh Singh Kushwaha and Ankit Kumar said at least 20 cusecs of water should be supplied from the Sharda canal system to maintain the downstream flow. The team emphasized protection of wetlands and natural drainage channels, removal of encroachments and protection of river banks to aid recovery. Professor Dutta said low-cost, nature-based solutions could improve the flow.“Gomti’s status can be changed, but only if timely and coordinated action is taken,” said researchers Komal Loshali, Pragati Sharma and Ayushma Yadav.

Volleyball: Invincible KK Boys defeated Sarwan to become champion
KK Boys, St Cruz win semi-finals and final in straight sets at Merces

Panaji: All the games in the group stage were competitive till the semi-finals of the All Goa Volleyball Tournament with three away players, which ended in four sets.KK Boys showed their true colors in the knockout stage. Led by talismanic Ashwal Rai, the Santa Cruz team overcame the challenge of favorites Detelz Doctor in straight sets earlier and performed even better in the final, defeating Sarwan Bicholim 25-19, 27-25, 25-22 at the Modi Ground in Merced late on Saturday night. The tournament attracted huge crowds as fans waited till the early hours of the morning to watch the Indian stars in action.Undoubtedly, the horse was the biggest attraction. He could travel to Goa only after his name was not considered for the national team camp in Gandhinagar. The reason? It is not form; The star spiker missed the national championship as he wanted international exposure for himself and starred in the Mongolian Premier League. The selectors, quite strangely, left him out along with Jerome Vinith, who had also played in Mongolia and won the league with Tuv Mig VC.While his Indian teammates were training in Gujarat for the AVC Cup, everything was business as usual for Ashwal in Merseyside. In the final, he took time to settle into his rhythm and won only six points in the first set. But when KK Boys won the match, they had 10 winners in the second set and 14 winners in the third set.He couldn’t win it alone. Vishakh was also there. The spiker came up with important points, especially in the second set when KK Boys overcame a seven-point deficit, largely thanks to her powerful serve.Tamil Nadu setter Nanjil Surya, representing Indian Universities, was intriguing as ever, while the local boys – Nitin Sawant, Hemant Naik and the popular Ashwek Gawde played their roles to perfection. After losing the first set, Sarwan took a huge lead of seven points at 14-7 in the second set, but somehow lost. Once the set slipped away from them, there was no way to bounce back, even for a team that had Prime Volleyball League (PVL) stars Shubham Choudhary and Sahil Kanwal. The All Goa Volleyball Tournament was organized by the Almeida Brothers and Pogo Boys Merces in the memory of Vicente Almeida and Bonifacio Almeida.Individual Awards: Best Setter: Rahul Chokla (Sarvan), Best Smasher of the Final: Ashwek Gawde (KK Boys), Best defender: Yatish Moraskar (KK Boys), man of the Match: Nanjil Surya (KK Boys), Best Player of the Tournament: Ashwal Rai (KK Boys), Crowd Favorite: Nitin Sawant (KK Boys).

After 60 years of wait, Ghazipur villagers inaugurate crowdfunded bridge over Magai river

Lucknow: On a quiet Sunday in Kyaampur Cantonment village in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district, history came with no government machinery or political slogans. It stood solidly in concrete and steel, measuring 105 feet long and 9.5 feet wide across the Magai River. After 2 years, 1 month and 18 days of tireless efforts, and around Rs 1 crore being raised through crowdfunding, the bridge was finally inaugurated by Justice Shekhar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court.Conceptualized and built by Captain (Retd) Ravindra Yadav, the bridge was inaugurated by Justice Shekhar Yadav, Judge of Allahabad High Court, at Kyampur Cantonment village.Captain (Retd) Ravindra Yadav, a civil engineer who served in the 55 Engineer Regiment of the Indian Army’s Corps of Engineers, returned to his native village in January 2024 after retiring from the Army after 30 years of service. Fed up with the daily hardships faced by the villagers due to the absence of a permanent crossing, he took the initiative to design and execute the bridge with the support of local residents and well-wishers. Construction began in March 2024 and was funded entirely through crowdfunding.Considering the importance of the occasion, Ravindra’s Home Regiment deputed a Junior Commissioned Officer to attend the inauguration ceremony. The project later received national attention following a TOI report, which was followed by inspection by the Public Works Department and then the Indian Army. Both agencies acknowledged the scale and importance of the community-driven effort. The Magai River, which originates from Dubavan village in Azamgarh, flows through Mau and Ghazipur districts for more than 200 km before joining the Tamsa River, which ultimately joins the Ganga near Ballia.Although the river is barely 70-80 feet wide at Kyaampur, the lack of a bridge had a deep impact on the area. Kayampur village, home to about 3,500 people, is located directly on its banks, while about 50 nearby villages with a combined population of more than 70,000 were forced to travel up to 40 km to cover the actual distance of 15 km.For decades, villagers regularly risked their lives by crossing the river in fragile boats to reach Nonhara market, the district headquarters and the district hospital. Incidents of capsizing of boats carrying school children have come to light earlier also. Residents say that although the district administration has advised patience, they have already waited at least 60 years for a solution.Major General (retd) Ajay Chaturvedi, under whom Ravindra served in Roorkee in 2003–04, contributed over Rs 1 lakh towards the project and encouraged others to donate. “Ravindra is one of those rare officers who goes beyond the call of duty for others,” he said. “This bridge bypasses bureaucratic delays and stands as a testament to grassroots determination and collective action.”In recognition of this initiative, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi honored Honorary Captain and Subedar Ravindra Yadav with the Veteran Achievers Award in September 2025.Speaking to TOI, an emotional Ravindra said, “For the people of Kyampur and neighboring villages, the bridge now represents not only connectivity but also long-denied access to education, health care and opportunity.”

Who is Riley Podleski? American journalist's claim that America used 'less than 10%' of its military against Iran is going viral.

An American media personality has gone viral after making bold claims about American military strength during a briefing on tensions with Iran.American journalist and conservative media personality Riley Podleski said this week that the US used “less than 10%” of its combat power in the operation against Iran. His comments came in an official video update published by the War Department.Speaking as Pentagon assistant press secretary in the War Department’s weekly sitrep video, Podleski said, “The new Iranian regime understood that a deal was far better than the fate that awaited them. Our war fighters made history with their tremendous victory on the battlefield.” His comments came after the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran.At an introductory Pentagon briefing last week, War Secretary Pete Hegseth also underlined the scale of US military capability, claiming the forces had destroyed one of the world’s largest armies while using only a fraction of their strength. He said, “The world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism proved completely incapable of defending itself, its people, or its territory. We mobilized only a part of our strength and Iran suffered a devastating military defeat.”Podleski went on to credit US President Donald Trump for the unprecedented action. He said, “We own their skies, we destroyed their navy, destroyed their missile program and rendered useless their defense industrial base.”He also detailed a dramatic Easter weekend rescue mission. According to Podleski, an F-15 Strike Eagle was shot down over Iran on April 3. Within 48 hours, the US military launched two rescue operations involving more than 170 aircraft. Describing the moment a crew member signaled for help, she said her first message was: “God is good.” He added, “Shooted down on Good Friday. Hiding in a cave all Saturday and rescued on Sunday. Flown out of Iran at sunrise on Easter Sunday.”Along with his government-facing role, Podleski is known for his work with conservative digital outlets. He has built his following through on-the-ground reporting and social media content, often covering protests, immigration debates, and campus politics.
