‘Iran begged for this ceasefire’: US War Secretary Pete Hegseth hails ‘victory’ over Iran

'Iran begged for this ceasefire': US War Secretary Pete Hegseth hails 'victory' over Iran

US Secretary of War pete hegseth Iran “begged for a ceasefire” after Operation Epic Fury “destroyed their forces and rendered their war ineffective,” it claimed on Wednesday.Addressing a press conference, Hegseth credited US President Donald Trump for shaping the moment. “…President Trump fabricated this moment. Iran begged for this ceasefire, and we all know it...Operation Epic Fury was a historic and overwhelming victory on the battlefield…” he said.He described the operation as a major strategic success, saying, “Operation Epic Fury destroyed Iran’s military and rendered it combat-ineffective for years to come.”The Pentagon chief also issued a stern warning over Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, saying the US will ensure it is secured, by force if necessary. Although he did not elaborate on how this would be achieved, he indicated that Washington was monitoring the situation closely.Hegseth said, “We’re looking at it. We know what they have, and they’ll give it up, and we’ll get it, and we’ll take it. If we have to, we can do it any way we can.” He said, “They’ll willingly give it to us, we’ll take it, we’ll take it, we’ll figure it out, or if we have to do something else ourselves, like we did with Midnight Hammer or something like that, we reserve that opportunity.”Hegseth’s comments signal a continuing tough stance by Washington, with the US keeping the option of additional strikes if its demands are not met.The Pentagon chief’s comments come after Trump, who previously warned of destroying Iran’s “entire civilization”, changed his stance and announced a ceasefire with Tehran, calling it a “complete and total victory” after the 38-day Operation Epic Fury. However, Tehran presented a contrary story. The Islamic Republic, led by Mojtaba Khamenei, also claimed victory and cited Washington’s acceptance of its 10-point proposal as evidence of both battlefield and diplomatic success.

Srinagar Police busts another multi-state Al Falah-type LeT network

New Delhi: Srinagar Police has busted another multi-state network of Al-Falah type Lashkar-e-Taiba A painstaking, month-long investigation was launched following the arrest of two pakistani terrorist To allegedly receive, guide and arrange logistics for foreign terrorists who infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir in March, he created a network of Overground Workers (OGWs) not only in kashmir But in other states like Haryana and Rajasthan.Abdullah alias Abu Hurera alias Ahmed, a resident of Kasur, Punjab, Pakistan, who had infiltrated via Gurez in 2010, and Mohammad Usman alias Khubaib, a resident of Lahore and had infiltrated into Baramulla in 2017, were nabbed from Malerkotla, Punjab, a month ago based on human and technical intelligence. Their interrogation revealed a network of OGWs that Hurrera had built in South Kashmir over the past 16 years and Usman in Baramulla since 2017, and which was now being expanded to include towns in Haryana and Rajasthan, especially in madrassas suspected to have links to Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Hurrera and Usman, both A-plus category terrorists, who have handled and commanded around 40 foreign terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir over the past few years and were working together since 2023, had traveled to Nuh and Mewat via Delhi at different times. So far, in the searches conducted at 19 places in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Haryana, six OGWs have been detained in Haryana, four in Rajasthan and more than a dozen in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said the aim of the multi-state module was to create a LeT network outside Jammu and Kashmir with the help of Pakistani and LeT contacts; And it is used to establish hideouts for Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists and ultimately help them exit India with the help of forged documents arranged by the local OGW network. At least one Pakistani terrorist, Rabindranath Tagore, is said to have fled Rajasthan using forged identity and travel documents. The investigation also revealed the funding and financial patterns of LeT.More arrests may be made in the coming days, with investigators not ruling out footprints in more states. NIA is likely to take over this case.

Artemis II: Carol Taylor Wiseman and a crater-shaped hole called Love

Artemis II: Carol Taylor Wiseman and a crater-shaped hole called Love
In a poignant parallel to a fictional scene from ‘First Man’, Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen requests a lunar crater be named ‘Carol’ after mission commander Reed Wiseman’s late wife.

There’s a moment at the end of Damien Chazelle’s 2018 film first manWhen Neil Armstrong played with cool composure Ryan Gosling) standing alone on the moon. He takes out a small bracelet that belonged to his daughter Karen, who died at the age of two, and drops it in a pit. It is a fictional scene, debated for its historical accuracy, but emotionally it is undeniable. It’s a moment that has likely drawn people to watch the film again and again, just to get to that final 20-minute sequence, aided by Justin Hurwitz’s unforgettable musical score, in which Gosling reaches the farthest reaches of mankind, as the first man to step on the moon, with his broken heart presumably finding some peace. That gesture of leaving the bracelet on the moon says what Armstrong doesn’t put into words in the film: Even at the furthest point a human being can reach, grief travels with you.

first person 1

If Armstrong’s imaginary work was about letting go, Wiseman’s real work was about holding on.

This week, reality, unexpectedly and almost impossibly, echoed that fantasy. During the historic Artemis II mission, when astronauts flew farther from Earth than any humans had before, they stopped. Not for technical investigation. Not for scientific observation. But for the sake of memory. In that vast silence between Earth and the Moon, his Canadian partner, Jeremy Hansen, requested that a small, unnamed lunar crater be called “Carol” in honor of Carol Taylor Wiseman, the late wife of mission commander Reed Wiseman. There were not a single tear in Orion’s eyes, or in the command center, and now possibly in the entire world. Even though the crater was small, there was no sign. Even at the farthest point of space exploration and on the darkest side of the Moon, love endured. Kindness won.

Trump’s call with Artemis II crew remained silent for a full minute, awkward moment goes viral

Carol Taylor Wiseman died in 2020 after a long battle with cancer, leaving behind her husband and their two daughters. It’s easy to get distracted by the scale of the moment. Artemis II is a milestone. Returning to deep space after more than half a century, a mission that broke the distance record set during Apollo 13. But what’s imprinted on people’s minds (and hearts) isn’t the distance traveled, or even the images of the far side of the moon — it’s that brief, delicate human interruption: the name of a loved one spoken into the void. After all, a crater is simply an absence – a crater made by impact. Naming it after someone you love is an act of filling that void with meaning. Here, there was a similar trend between real and imaginary gestures. Love.In first manArmstrong’s gesture is solitary. The moon becomes a private mourning site, a place where grief can finally be quietly soothed. This is cinema’s way of making interiority visible. What happened on Artemis II was something else. It was communal. The suggestion to name the crater in memory of his wife came not from Wiseman, but from his Canadian colleague Jeremy Hansen. He was the same person who spoke to Mission Control about a lost “loved one” before proposing the name. The moment reportedly brought tears to the crew’s eyes; They embraced, in zero gravity, a floating lump of shared emotions. If Armstrong’s imaginary work was about letting go, Wiseman’s real work was about holding on. The distinction matters because cinema often imagines grief as something that seeks closure: a final act, a symbolic release. But there is rarely a solution to sorrow in life. It is taken forward, reinterpreted, adapted to new contexts. It becomes a part of yourself that continues.

Love equal to the size of the universe

There’s something almost confusing about contrast. On the one hand, the Artemis II crew was engaged in one of humanity’s most advanced technological achievements – navigating a spacecraft at distances of hundreds of thousands of miles, working within the cold precision of orbital mechanics. On the other hand, in the midst of it all, they were doing something ancient and deeply human: remembering someone they loved.Carroll Taylor Wiseman was not a public figure in the traditional sense. She was a nurse who spent her life caring for others. He died at the age of 46. In the logic of history or science, there is no reason for his name to exist on the Moon. And yet, it happens.Space exploration, despite all its talk of progress, has always been linked to the personal lives of those involved in it. The Apollo missions were full of quiet personal rituals: photos strapped to suits, small tokens carried over impossible distances. even NASA Acknowledge that astronauts often bring souvenirs, because they want to remind people that they are not just representatives of humanity, but individuals with attachments. The size of this crater indicated to the Artemis II crew that these attachments were not incidental to the mission. They are what make the mission worthwhile. As someone said on social media: “No matter how far we travel, the people we love stay with us.”

Former Indian captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has emphasized on this Mohammed ShamiUrged the selectors to bring the experienced fast bowler back into the India national setup. Speaking at an event in Kolkata ahead of Kolkata Knight Riders’ clash with Lucknow Super Giants, Ganguly made a strong case for Shami’s return, saying the veteran should share the new ball. Jasprit Bumrah.Shami, who is currently representing Lucknow Supergiants after signing for Rs 10 crore from Sunrisers Hyderabad, has made an immediate impact with excellent performances in IPL 2026.On 5 April, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he bowled a remarkable spell of 2/9 in four overs, which included 18 dot balls, and dismissed dangerous openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head early in the innings. Earlier, against Delhi Capitals, he dismissed KL Rahul for a golden duck on the very first ball and finished with figures of 1/28.Ganguly was particularly impressed by Shami’s spell against SRH, describing it as “phenomenal” considering the quality of the opposition.Ganguly said, “He should not bowl anywhere else but at the other end to Jasprit Bumrah. He is that good. We all saw that spell in four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad the other night, scoring nine runs against two of the best T20 players, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. He was phenomenal.”Domestic form and fitness in focusThe former India captain recalled Shami’s eight wickets and also highlighted his strong domestic performances ranji trophy Semi-final for Bengal. He said, “He had a very good Ranji Trophy season for Bengal. I still remember that semi-final, even though Bengal lost, he took eight wickets. He played a key role in taking the team here. I am very happy that he wants to continue playing in the Ranji Trophy. It is difficult for a fast bowler, but there is nothing better than watching Mohammed Shami play with the new ball.” Despite his consistent good performances in domestic cricket and IPL, Shami is out of the India setup under the chief selector Ajit Agarkar. However, Ganguly believes that the fast bowler still has a lot to offer at the highest level.Ganguly said, “He looks fit and sharp. You get into peak form after bowling consistently. I still believe he should play for India. Hopefully his time comes again because he is so good.”

Even those who believe in war are nervous about this version of Trump

Trump’s deadline ended not with the major strikes he had threatened, but with a last-minute two-week pause. About 90 minutes before the Washington cutoff at 8 pm on Tuesday – 5.30 am on Wednesday in India – Trump said he would suspend US bombing of Iran for two weeks, relying on Tehran to ensure a “full, immediate and safe” reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
But the rhetoric before that pause was tough. The thing is, even in structured killing during war, people expect rituals of repentance. You explain why the use of force was necessary, you emphasize that there was no other option, you show some remorse for what had to be destroyed – and you never say that civilians themselves are the targets.

TMC vs EC clash in Bengal: Election Commission accuses Derek O’Brien of ‘yelling’; The party called it a ‘lie’. india news

TMC vs EC clash in Bengal: Election Commission accuses Derek O'Brien of 'yelling'; The party called it a 'lie'
Left: Derek O’Brien; Right: CEC Gyanesh Kumar

New Delhi: A meeting between a delegation of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and this Election Commission (EC) Wednesday turned tense, with both sides issuing sharply contradictory accounts of what happened.According to Election Commission sources, during the conversation TMC leader Derek O’Brien reportedly raised his voice and asked the Chief Election Commissioner not to speak.“The Trinamool Congress meeting lasted barely a few minutes. Election Commission sources said Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien shouted at the Election Commission and asked the CEC not to speak,” Election Commission sources said.He further claimed that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had to intervene to restore order. “CEC Gyanesh Kumar requested Derek O’Brien to maintain decorum in the commission room and told him that ‘shouting and rude behavior is not appropriate’,” sources said. However, TMC leaders rejected the allegations outright, calling them “false” and challenged the ECI to make the records of the meeting public.Speaking to reporters, O’Brien gave conflicting accounts of the brief conversation. “Today, we went to the Chief Election Commissioner. He told us to ‘get away’ within 7 minutes of the meeting. The meeting started at 10:02 am and ended at 10:07 am… When we told him you are transferring officials, and how do you want to conduct free and fair elections? And then he said, go away from here… What I saw today is a matter of shame. I challenge the Election Commissioner to release the video or audio of what happened today.”Supporting him, TMC MP Saket Gokhale termed the Election Commission’s version as a “lie”.“This is a lie. I was personally present at the meeting. Nothing like that was said. CEC Gyanesh Kumar only told us to ‘get lost’. We challenge the ECI to release the transcript of the meeting. Otherwise we will do so,” Gokhale said in a post on Twitter.TMC leader Sagarika Ghosh also rejected the claims of the Election Commission.“False. A blatant lie. None of this was told to the four-member delegation. We were told two lines by the Chief Election Commissioner…” First line: Where is your authorized signer. And the second most embarrassing two words: Get lost,” she said on X.The clash comes against the backdrop of growing tension between the opposition and the Election Commission ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.Earlier this week, Om Birla and CP Radhakrishnan rejected separate notices given by opposition parties demanding the removal of the CEC. The notice submitted in March cited allegations such as “prejudicial and discriminatory conduct in office”, “deliberate obstruction of investigation into electoral fraud”, and “mass disenfranchisement”.In their respective orders, both presiding officers stated that the allegations did not meet the constitutional threshold required to initiate removal proceedings, noting the lack of prima facie evidence of misconduct.Voting for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting taking place on May 4. In the 2021 assembly elections, TMC won a landslide victory with 213 seats, while BJP won 77 seats. Congress and Left Front failed to win any seats.
