12 years, 12 names: Fugitive actor rewrote identity for every role
Hemant Modi, convicted in the 2005 Naroda murder case, not only changed his first name but also kept changing his surname to blend in with various social and business circles, police said.

Ahmedabad: For 12 years, Hemant Nagindas Modi, 53, treated identity change like a costume change. According to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, the murder convict – who came out of parole in 2014 – lived under different names while quietly pursuing a career in films, television serials and theatre. The former lawyer convicted in the 2005 Naroda murder case kept changing not only his first name but also his surname to blend in with various social and business circles, police said.“He had more than 12 identities. He had Spandan Modi, Spandan Joshi, Spandan Vyas, Hemang Modi, Hemang Vyas, Hemang Vaishnav, Hemang Kumar, Spandan Kumar and others,” said a senior crime branch officer. “He kept changing his name and changing his look to appear on the small and big screens.”Officials said Modi allegedly devised his surnames according to the caste background of producers, directors or theater contacts. This without a doubt helped him move forward in the entertainment industry.Interestingly, after being released on parole, he did not shy away from changing his identity. “He started dabbling in theater during his college days. He first adopted the name ‘Spandan Modi’ between 1998 and 2001 when he developed a fascination for art and culture.”Police said the theater failed to provide financial stability and he started taking up law as a profession. However, before he could establish himself as a lawyer, Modi was booked for murder and rioting. On 15 June 2005, two groups clashed near Azad Chowk late at night following a dispute over an allegedly illegal staircase and common path in Naroda’s Parshvanath Township. According to the FIR, Hemant Modi, his brother and several associates attacked Narendra alias Nanno Kamble with a sword, iron pipe and baseball bat. Kamble died of his injuries and all the accused were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2008.He was lodged in Sabarmati jail, where he witnessed the murder of gangster Chetan Patel alias ‘Chetan Battery’ in the premises in 2012. Due to security reasons the authorities shifted him to Mehsana jail. In July 2014, the Gujarat High Court granted him parole for 30 days, but he never returned to jail.Police said he initially stayed in Patan and quietly moved to Gujarat’s theater circuit and later joined Mumbai’s entertainment industry. During his years as a fugitive, Modi defied expectations by appearing in Gujarati and Hindi television shows, web series and big-budget films while remaining invisible to the police.Police said he has worked in Hindi films, including ‘Thugs of Hindostan’, ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’, ‘Metro in Dino’ and Malayalam film ‘L2: Empuraan’.Crime branch officials said their breakthrough came after specific intelligence was received that Modi had recently returned to Ahmedabad, assuming that enough time had passed for him to roam around unnoticed. He was arrested from a rented house near Ghikanta metro station on Wednesday.

Tejashwi targeted NDA on inflation, weakening rupee and unemployment. patna news

Tejashwi targeted NDA on inflation, weakening rupee and unemployment.
RJD national working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav

Patna: National Working President of RJD Tejashwi Prasad Yadav On Friday, he launched a scathing attack on the NDA government over inflation, unemployment, poverty and weak rupee and alleged that the economic policies of the Center have pushed the country into crisis and worsened the condition of Bihar. In a statement, Tejashwi recalled Narendra Modi’s comment before becoming Prime Minister that there was a competition between the central government and the rupee as to who would fall by how much. He claimed that the rupee has now become the weakest currency in Asia.Tejashwi alleged that the rupee has continuously weakened during Modi’s tenure and claimed that its value has almost halved in the last 12 years.Taking aim at the Centre’s economic claims, he said the government projected India as one of the world’s leading economies but argued that the country’s per capita GDP in US dollar terms reflected a weak reality. He alleged that the “visionless” economic policies of the NDA government have damaged the national economy and led to record inflation, unemployment and poverty.Tejashwi said Bihar, which he described as the poorest and most backward state in the country, is facing a serious financial crisis. He claimed that the prices of LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel, fertilizers, seeds, medicines and education have increased rapidly, while the prices of ration items, edible oil, pulses and milk are becoming out of the reach of common families.According to Tejashwi, poor and middle-class families were struggling to manage daily expenses due to rising costs in various sectors. He also accused the “double engine” NDA government of failing to present any concrete roadmap to control inflation and unemployment.Reacting to Tejashwi’s allegation, BJP state spokesperson Prem Ranjan Patel said the entire world is facing the outbreak of conflict in West Asia, due to which oil and gas prices are rising. “India is still performing better than other countries and PM Narendra Modi has already given several advisories to deal with the scenario affecting the world,” Patel said.

‘Now or never’: Ricky Ponting’s clear message ahead of PBKS win vs LSG in IPL clash cricket news

'Now or never': Ricky Ponting's clear message before PBKS win against LSG in IPL clash
Ricky Ponting, Shreyas Iyer

Punjab Kings head coach ricky ponting Said the team is calm and focused ahead of their final league-stage match of IPL 2026 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday. With a playoff spot still at stake, PBKS are looking to move on from recent results and return to the form that helped them dominate the first half of the season.Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Friday, Ponting said that despite the pressure of the situation, the atmosphere in the dressing room remained positive.“There’s a really good, positive atmosphere around the group, it’s really comfortable. We have quite an experienced group of players, so they know how to prepare themselves for big games, and I think there’s no hiding the fact that it’s a now or never situation for us as a team in this tournament. So I’m really excited about tomorrow. “I’m excited about what this group is capable of and I think in the first seven games of the season we’ve all seen how well this team can play,” Ponting said.Ponting also warned that LSG could still be dangerous despite being out of the playoff race.He said, “I think teams can be very dangerous in situations like this. Going into Lucknow tomorrow, apart from personal pride and pride in the franchise’s performance, they really have nothing to lose. But we understand that, and I want my boys to play like that. I want us to be fearless and I want us to be courageous. I want us to keep playing the game and not worry about negative things happening.”The former Australia captain said close moments often decide T20 matches and stressed the need for players to focus on execution.“It’s really important that we focus on the positive things and what you can do as an individual player to make an impact on the game. In IPL, these games are decided by very good margins. You only need to be out with a few balls here and there, otherwise one of your batsmen may make a poor choice, or take a strange piece of fielding to change the pace. So we’re aware of that, but we just need to know that we have to play our best game tomorrow.”Ponting also praised fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer for their contributions during the season.“In the last few games, we have probably seen Arshdeep at his best. The IPL is becoming a very high-scoring competition, and I am extremely happy and proud of the way he has gone about his cricket. He leaves no stone unturned as far as his preparation is concerned. Along with him, Shreyas’s leadership in the group has been exceptional. He is now a very mature leader who understands how to get the best out of his players. Whenever he speaks, every one of our players looks up and listens,” Ponting concluded.Punjab Kings will take on Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Saturday.

Cellular Dehydration: Drinking Water But Still Thirsty? 5 hidden signs of cellular dehydration

Drinking water but still thirsty? 5 hidden signs of cellular dehydration

Do you always carry your water bottle everywhere and keep drinking from it throughout the day so that you don’t have dehydration problems, but despite all your efforts, you feel dehydrated? With the heat wave increasing, staying hydrated has become the most important thing, as dehydration can often increase lethargy, cause extreme headaches and lead to heat stroke. The truth is that hydration isn’t just about the amount of water you shove down your throat; It’s about how effectively your body retains and uses that fluid. If your electrolyte levels are unbalanced or you are losing water faster than you can absorb it, you may also experience cellular dehydration. Here are five subtle signs that your body is demanding proper hydration, even if you think you’re drinking enough.persistent bad breathWhen you don’t have enough water in your body, your saliva glands don’t produce as much saliva. Saliva is like a shield for your mouth. It contains things that kill bacteria. It also washes away the bits of food stuck in your teeth.. This prevents the bad germs from growing too much. Bad bacteria grow really fast if you don’t have saliva. Due to this, your breath smells bad all the time. You can try freshening up with mint or brushing your teeth vigorously. Looks like this won’t get rid of your bad breath. Bad breath keeps coming because bacteria keep growing in your mouth. Persistent bad breath is a problem when you don’t have enough saliva to fight bad bacteria in your mouth.

When you’re dehydrated, your organs—especially your liver—struggle to release stored glycogen and other energy components into your bloodstream. If your body really needs electrolytes to absorb it, drinking more plain water may not help.dry, loose skinYou may be drinking water by the gallon, but if your skin feels tight, flaky, or lacks its normal suppleness, the moisture isn’t reaching the surface. A quick way to check is the pinch test: gently pinch the skin on the back of your hand. If it takes a few seconds to return to its normal, flat position rather than immediately, your tissues are lacking the deep hydration they need.

Rishabh Pant (Image Credit: BCCI/IPL)

New Delhi: At a time when Rishabh Pant The former Indian wicketkeeper and chief selector is going through the toughest phase of his career. Kiran More Has thrown his weight firmly behind the struggling star, insisting that Pant has the courage, character and resilience to script another comeback.Pant’s difficult IPL 2026 campaign has further increased the scrutiny around him. The wicketkeeper-batsman has struggled for runs while his team, Lucknow Super Giants, has endured a forgettable season. The conflict has also spilled over to the international level, with Pant being replaced by KL Rahul as India’s Test vice-captain and losing his place as second-choice ODI wicketkeeper to Ishan Kishan for the upcoming series against Afghanistan.Pant has been able to score only 286 runs in 13 matches in IPL 2026, while under his captaincy, Lucknow Super Giants are at the bottom of the points table. He also faced criticism for using the F-word live on television after LSG’s defeat to Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.“No, nothing like that, I am not disappointed at all. Pant is in the team, and I am very happy. He is a fighter, a player with great courage, he has a big heart and has done exceptionally well by single-handedly winning (Test) matches. I have worked with him very closely and I know him very well.”“Every cricketer goes through such a phase; you go through such a time. So I think there will definitely be a great comeback, and a strong comeback. When his life was saved and he returned to the team, he did very well, so this (current phase) is nothing compared to that,” More told IANS on Thursday.More also praised Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has scored 579 runs in 13 matches for Rajasthan Royals and currently tops the run-scoring charts with an astonishing strike rate of 236.32.“No, look, he is a special player, and God has created and sent him, so I think it is a great thing that he sent him to India. You will keep seeing him, because he will score a lot of runs in the future.“Even if he doesn’t, he is still a special player for me. But, just let him play cricket freely and don’t put too much pressure on him because he is performing so well at such a young age, I think it’s all part of the ‘wow factor’, and I want him to play Test matches, ODIs and T20s whenever he makes his debut for India.”More also talked about the launch of the Beyond Reach Premier League, a tournament for tennis-ball cricketers. Recently, trials for the league were held in Ghaziabad under his supervision.“It’s a special league, and we wanted to do something different. It was our first tryout, and a lot of guys came out for it, and we got to see some very interesting talent.”

From ‘Mubarakan’ to ‘Woe is my child’: Parents’ emotional reaction to son’s Google job offer goes viral

From 'Mubarakan' to 'Woe is my child': Parents' emotional reaction to son's Google job offer goes viral

A cool home video is constantly gaining attention online, not because it tries to go viral, but because it doesn’t. It’s a simple family moment that many say feels close to their own lives. A son sits down with his parents and shares a major update, and what happens next is a natural wave of emotions that needs no explanation. The Instagram clip shared by product manager Harnav Singh shows the moment he tells his parents about getting a job offer from Google. The reactions are quick, honest and extremely personal, which is why the video continues to be widely circulated.

A simple conversation that became memorable

The conversation begins in a completely everyday setting. Harnav tells his parents that he has received a new job offer. His father responds by saying “Mubarakan” warmly, while his mother, already reacting happily, embraces him. The mood changes a bit when Harnav asks them to guess the company behind the proposal.

Her mother immediately replies, “Google?”

When he confirms this, she is surprised and asks, “Really?” Before pulling her into another hug.His father reacts in a way that many viewers said sounded familiar. Smiling with pride, he lightly slaps his son and calls him “c*tta”, a gesture that shows affection in a very unfiltered way.

“This is what my gut feels like.”

As the moment calms down, Harnav’s mother becomes emotional talking about her son.“I always said that wherever Shere gets a job, it will be good and of her choice. That’s my gut feeling.”This statement resonated with many viewers, especially those who associated it with the quiet confidence that parents often show about their children’s future, even when the path is uncertain.Harnav shared the video online with a brief caption, “His reaction > My achievement. “My parents’ smiles got a little bigger.”

There has been a flood of reactions on social media

After the clip aired, users on social media responded with messages reflecting their own experiences and feelings. One user wrote, “The perfect example of a father being a father, he’s so happy, he’s so proud, but he doesn’t know how to express it. He doesn’t even know if he should cry.”Another comment read, “Loved the way she hugged and said, ‘Hi my baby’ and her dad said. In this way father and mother are different; Everyone has their own way of expressing love.”A third user shared, “My mom had a similar reaction when I came to Amazon, and it’s seriously the best feeling.”Another viewer wrote, “The cutest thing I saw today. Congratulations, Harnav.”Another comment said, “Every student who prepares day and night for placements dreams of giving this moment to their parents.”Disclaimer: This article is based on publicly available information and social media content. The Carolina Hurricanes are getting ready for another big NHL playoff battle, but forward William Carrier already has some competition at home. The veteran winger recently said that despite Carolina’s post-season success this year, his wife and some family members are still rooting for the Montreal Canadiens.Carrier’s comments quickly made their way into the latest NHL news roundups due to the unusual family rivalry surrounding the Eastern Conference Finals. But the playoff matchup has created a light-hearted but awkward situation for the Quebec-born forward at home while the Carolina Hurricanes continue to focus on chasing the Stanley Cup.

William Carrier discusses supporting the Montreal Canadiens inside the Carolina Hurricanes family

William Carrier admitted that there are a lot of people around me who are loyal to the Montreal Canadiens because of their Quebec roots. The Carolina Hurricanes winger joked that his wife is still rooting for Montreal during the NHL playoff season. It provides an interesting storyline for one of the biggest NHL matchups of the day. However, Carrier said he understands his family’s loyalty to the Canadiens, but his only concern is helping the Carolina Hurricanes advance to the Stanley Cup playoffs. The veteran winger has been a good depth player for Carolina with his physical style, good anticipation ability, and playoff experience. His energy has led the Hurricanes to keep their momentum going into the playoffs. The Hurricanes entered the Eastern Conference Finals as one of the strongest teams remaining after dominant playoff performances early in the postseason. They have a good mix of players and defense that still makes them a strong Stanley Cup contender.Career focus seems to be fine, although family rivalry has become a popular NHL Update storyline. The forward laughed off the situation but made it clear that playoff success was more important than domestic bragging rights. The story also reflects the passion for the Montreal Canadiens throughout Quebec, where support for the franchise is often passed down from one generation of families to the next. Even with a career skating for Carolina now, it’s hard to replace those hometown loyalties during the NHL playoffs.

38.5% decline in H-1B registrations for FY 2027: Immigration lawyer says numbers are like this 10 years ago

38.5% decline in H-1B registrations for FY 2027: Immigration lawyer says numbers are like this 10 years ago
USCIS reveals 38.5% decline in H-1B registrations for FY 2027.

USCIS published details of the H-1B fiscal year 2027 lottery as the season approached and celebrated a 38.5% decline in registrations, attributed to President Donald Trump’s America First policies. In one year, the number of registrations dropped from 343,981 in FY 2026 to only 211,600 in FY 2027. The agency said, “This data is a clear indication that the days of abusing the program with massive, low-wage enrollment are over, and that the program is better serving its intended purpose of attracting high-skilled foreign workers and protecting the wages, working conditions, and job opportunities of American workers.”On salary-based selection, which was introduced for the first time this year to replace a random lottery, the agency said it approved more applicants with advanced degrees and higher salaries and gave priority to those who studied at U.S. universities. “71.5% of the aliens selected have a U.S. master’s degree or higher, compared to 57% last year,” the agency said.USCIS said, “These skilled workers are making a real impact on our economy and we are closing the door on the low-wage and low-skilled foreign labor pipeline approved under Biden Administration policies. This year, only 17.7% of all selected registrations were in the lowest wage category.”The release of these numbers is awaited by H-1B applicants and the companies that handle these applications as they speculate whether there will be a second and third lottery if the H-1B quota is not filled in the first round of the lottery.Immigration attorney Emily Newman said the number of registrations submitted this year is about the same as the number 10 years ago. But the main reason is the $100,000 fee that Trump imposed on applications outside the US. “The 38.5% decline from last year likely accounts only for beneficiaries who are outside the United States and therefore subject to the $100,000 Trump fee,” Newman said.“Since implementing the electronic lottery, USCIS has selected an average of 127,843 registrations each year to fill 85,000 slots (not counting 2024, in which a much higher number were selected). This suggests that this year’s selection rate should be closer to 60%,” Newman estimated.
