New Delhi: The 22-year-old daughter of a senior bureaucrat was sexually assaulted and murdered at her south Delhi home on Wednesday. Police said her head was crushed with a heavy object and she was strangled with a mobile phone charging cable.Police arrested the 23-year-old man from a hotel in Dwarka within 12 hours of the crime. The suspect is a former domestic worker who was fired for “financial misconduct” six weeks ago. Police said, he had returned to steal.The suspect ransacked the victim’s house and fled with Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and some valuables. Joint CP (South) Vijay Kumar said a case of rape, murder and robbery has been registered against the suspect. Police said it was not verified.The incident happened around 6.40 in the morning. At the time of the crime, the woman’s parents had gone out for morning exercise. Joint CP Kumar said, “Her parents had gone for their gym session. A spare key was left outside the flat for the house help, who usually came around 6.30-7 am.” The suspect was aware of the family’s daily routine as well as the location of the keys. In response, the suspect said he had urgent business and left,” the guard said.After the crime, the police formed several teams, analyzed footage from over 100 CCTV cameras and later traced him to the hotel he had stayed in in Dwarka area.
