According to Chinese court rules, companies cannot lay off employees on the basis of AI.

A Chinese court ruled that companies cannot fire workers merely to replace them with artificial intelligence systems, as officials combine the need to stabilize the domestic labor market with a global race to develop AI technologies. The court decided that a tech firm in eastern China had illegally fired one of its employees after he refused to take a demotion when his job was automated by AI, according to a statement from the Hangzhou Intermediate People’s Court. “The grounds for termination cited by the company did not fall within negative circumstances such as a decline in business or operational difficulties, nor did they meet the legal condition that made it ‘impossible to continue the employment contract,'” the court said in an April 28 article.Citing the same case, the court said in a separate statement that due to technological advancement, companies cannot unilaterally fire employees or cut salaries.Chinese companies are rushing to implement AI systems as part of a state-directed effort to dominate the technology. At the same time, Chinese Communist Party planners have signaled a desire to prioritize stability in the labor market as the country’s economy slows and youth unemployment rises. (Bloomberg)

After donating billions of dollars to charity, Mackenzie Scott says ‘small acts of kindness matter’ world News

After donating billions of dollars to charity, Mackenzie Scott says 'small acts of kindness matter'

After giving away more than $26 billion since 2019, including nearly $7 billion in 2025 alone, MacKenzie Scott continues to push a message that is at odds with the scale of her philanthropy. In a 2025 essay published on Yield Giving, he highlighted the importance of everyday generosity, arguing that small, frequent acts of kindness are often overlooked despite their collective impact. Citing data about charitable donations, volunteerism and informal support networks, Scott points out that ordinary people contribute huge sums of money and effort every year, shaping communities in ways that go far beyond headline-grabbing donations.

Mackenzie Scott’s message behind the billions

Scott’s argument focuses on the idea that large-scale philanthropy is only one part of a much broader ecosystem of generosity. In his essay, he said that Americans collectively donate hundreds of billions of dollars to charity annually, with a significant portion coming in relatively small amounts. In addition to formal donations, they also referenced financial support sent to family members abroad, participation in crowdfunding, and the economic value of volunteer work and low-paid service roles.Taken together, these contributions are likely to exceed $1 trillion annually, taking into account financial donations and the extensive value of unpaid and underpaid care work. This figure should be understood as a rough estimate of the broader ecosystem of generosity rather than a single standardized figure.

What does the research say about kindness?

Scientific studies largely support the idea that small acts of kindness have measurable psychological benefits. Research in psychology, including tasks such as “counting kindness” studies, has found that people who intentionally perform or reflect on acts of kindness report higher levels of happiness and life satisfaction.Other behavioral research has shown that kindness can spread through social groups. In workplace experiments, individuals exposed to small acts of generosity are more likely to engage in similar behavior themselves, leading to increased overall social activity and improved group well-being over time.

small actions matter

Scott’s approach highlights a key point: While large donations can drive systemic change, everyday kindness helps sustain it. Small efforts such as helping a neighbor, offering assistance, or contributing a modest amount of money can impact well-being, strengthen social ties, and encourage others to act similarly.

Indian-origin Meenu Batra released from ICE custody after months; been living in America for 35 years

भारतीय मूल की मीनू बत्रा महीनों बाद ICE हिरासत से रिहा; 35 वर्षों से अमेरिका में रह रहा थाMeenu Batra, 53, who is known for interpreting Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu in Texas immigration courts, was released on April 30 after being detained since mid-March.His release came after a federal judge questioned the legality of his detention, saying he was detained without clear justification or proper procedural safeguards. The judge said he was given “no procedural protections” before his detention and ordered his release, barring future detention without proper notice.Batra was arrested on March 17 when ICE agents stopped him at Valley International Airport in Texas while traveling to a work assignment in Milwaukee. During his detention he was held at the El Valle Detention Facility in Raymondville. In a phone interview while in custody, she described the experience as tragic and said she “felt humiliated and treated like a criminal.”His lawyer Deepak Ahluwalia said he was granted parole shortly before a federal judge issued an order temporarily blocking his release. He argued that the government had failed to explain why he was detained after living and working in the US for decades.“Today’s order from the federal district court reaffirms what we have said from the beginning: The government cannot detain people in the first place and then justify it,” Ahluwalia said.He said: “The court has now ordered his release and made it clear that due process is not optional. If the government wants to take away someone’s liberty, it has to provide notice and a fair opportunity of being heard.”Batra has lived in the US for almost 35 years and is the mother of four adult children who are US citizens. He has worked as a certified court interpreter for over two decades and is believed to be the only licensed Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu interpreter in Texas.US Congressman Joaquin Castro criticized her detention, saying, “Meenu Batra is the only Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu court interpreter in Texas. She has spent most of her life working and raising her children in Texas. ICE detained her despite having humanitarian protections. Trump’s mass deportation campaign is not going after the worst-case scenario. It is targeting the breaking up of contributing members of our communities and families.According to US immigration authorities, Batra was issued a final deportation order in 2000. Officials said she entered the country for the first time without legal permission and that work authorization is not equivalent to legal immigration status. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said he was detained during a targeted enforcement operation and stressed that it would continue to pursue removal cases involving people with deportation orders. However, Batra’s legal team argued that she was living under a “stay of removal” protection, which prevents deportation to countries where a person could be harmed, and allows them to live and work in the US, but without a path to citizenship.

Woman charged after Indian-origin schoolgirl killed in car crash in London after all charges initially dropped

लंदन में कार दुर्घटना में भारतीय मूल की स्कूली छात्रा की हत्या के बाद शुरू में सभी आरोप हटा दिए जाने के बाद महिला पर आरोप लगाया गया

British-Indian Nooriya Sajjad

A woman has been charged in connection with a tragic car crash that killed two eight-year-old girls, including Indian-origin schoolgirl Nooriya Sajjad, when a vehicle plowed into a primary school fete in London.Claire Freemantle, 49, of Edge Hill, Wimbledon, is charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and seven counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury following the incident at The Study Prep School in Wimbledon in July 2023.According to his legal team, he is expected to plead not guilty when he appears at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 16.The accident occurred during the end of the year summer session celebrations when a Land Rover crossed the fence and entered the school grounds. Nuria Sajjad and her classmate Selena Lau, both eight years old, were killed, while more than a dozen others were injured.Freemantle was initially investigated, but in June 2024 police said she had suffered an epileptic seizure and would not face charges. That decision was later overturned after the victims’ families raised concerns, prompting a re-investigation.He was arrested again in January last year and released under investigation. His lawyers have questioned the reversal of an earlier decision to take no further action. A statement from his legal team said “serious questions must be answered” over why the case was reopened.Mark Jones, criminal defense partner at Payne Hicks Beach LLP, said she would be “traumatized for the rest of her life by the terrible loss and injury” and would be “completely devastated” by what happened. He added: “We trust the initial decision of the CPS [Crown Prosecution Service] “Serious questions remain to be answered about what was right under these tragic circumstances and what led to its reversal today.”The Metropolitan Police have acknowledged shortcomings in their initial handling of the case. In a statement, it said: “We regret how we initially handled this incident and the impact it had on those affected. It added: “We must now allow both the criminal proceedings and the independent investigation to do their job. However, following a review of the Roads and Transport Policing Command we will fundamentally reset how the Met investigates fatal and serious collisions.”Separately, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the conduct of 11 Metropolitan Police staff in the investigation, including allegations that officers provided misleading information to families and failed to handle the case. The watchdog is also investigating claims of possible racial bias in the way the case was managed.

It reflects a culture that trivializes violence and reduces real human harm to a punchline.”Calling for action, the group said: “This has no place on TikTok or anywhere. This audio needs to be removed.”The video in question appears to follow a familiar social media trend where users transition between outfits or moods with a dramatic audio cue. Chirayu Rana used legal chatbot for advice before filing sexual harassment allegation against JPMorgan executive Lorna Hajdini: 'Do I have a valid claim?'

A former JPMorgan employee who has accused a senior executive of sexual harassment took advice from an online legal chatbot when describing similar allegations, The New York Post reports.Indian-origin Chirayu Rana, whose lawsuit has now been withdrawn, alleged that executive director Lorna Hajdini forced him to perform abusive sexual acts, said to be the case when he used the legal advice platform AskALawyerOnCall.com around July 2024, about 10 months before his claims went public.

JPMorgan executive sued in New York on sexual harassment, coercion and racial harassment charges

In the exchange, a user named Rana described sexual harassment and workplace retaliation.“I was raped, sexually assaulted [sic]”My former boss at Morgan Stanley harassed me and forced me to take drugs,” he was quoted as saying in the transcript.“I was retaliated against for trying to move groups internally at the firm,” he reportedly said.He claimed: “HR did an ‘investigation’ but ultimately they got me to sign [sic] A separation agreement.”The chatbot interaction was published in screenshots cited by the New York Post. It shows Rana later referring to the perpetrator as “he”, which contradicts information later filed in court against Hajdini, a female executive at JPMorgan Chase. The platform publicly displayed the exchange as an example of its service, including user names. A disclaimer on the site states that Askalawyeroncall.com is a public forum and questions and responses are not private or confidential. In the same conversation, the user described signing the separation agreement under duress and claimed he was threatened. He reportedly wrote, “Yes, but I was forced to sign under duress.” He also said he had “ample evidence” of wrongdoing. The conversation continued and the chatbot asked if his agreement contained a clause preventing legal action. Rana reportedly reiterated that she was coerced, saying, “I signed it because I was scared and I felt I had no choice. He said he would ruin my career if I didn’t comply.”According to the transcript, he also said, “I have struggled mentally ever since. It was a terrible experience, and I left there under terrible circumstances.” They told everyone a false story about me, which made it even more difficult. At one point, the chatbot response referenced a different timeline, suggesting the alleged events would have occurred in 2020, which clearly did not align with Rana’s account.“Since this happened in 2020, you may still have options. Have you considered filing a workers’ compensation claim?” The chatbot replied.Rana reportedly responded, “I didn’t think about it. I just feel trapped because I signed that waiver,” and added, “It seems like everyone is refusing to help me because of it.”He also reportedly asked if he had a valid legal case and whether a lawyer would take it.“Do you think I really have a legitimate claim?” and “Do you know anyone who can take my case?” he reportedly asked. The NYP report said Rana was connected to a user named “joycelaw” on the exchange, who claimed to be a legal expert in employment and business law.The chatbot interaction is similar to Rana’s formal internal complaint at JPMorgan, which was filed in May 2025. JPMorgan later concluded an internal review involving phone records, emails, employee interviews and said there was no evidence to support her allegations.Rana is a Rutgers graduate who joined JPMorgan’s leveraged finance team in 2024. She later sued Hajdini, accusing him of forcing her to perform sexual acts, giving her drugs, and threatening her career if she did not do so. The complaint also accused him of coming to her house unannounced and pressurizing her for sexual relations. The lawsuit was filed under a pseudonym (John Doe) and has since been withdrawn for correction. Hazdini and his legal team have denied all allegations.

Quote of the Day by Princess Diana: “I don’t play by any rule books… I lead with my heart, not my head.” | world News

Quote of the Day by Princess Diana:

People often remember public figures not only for what they did, but also for how they made them feel. Princess Diana said, “I don’t play by a rule book… I lead with my heart, not my head.” This is a way of thinking that goes beyond what is expected of you in your job. Diana, Princess of Wales, was known for being able to connect with people on a personal level while in the public eye. His visits to hospitals, meetings with children and interactions with communities were all unique because they were based on empathy and understanding rather than strict adherence to tradition. This quote brings out a simple yet strong idea. This means that every decision should not be determined solely by logic or established rules. In many cases, compassion and human emotions can be equally important. These words still have some meaning because they talk about leadership and the way of acting that people can observe in their daily lives. This quote helps us understand how being aware of our emotions can change how we act and how we relate to other people.

Quote of the Day by Princess Diana

“I don’t play by any rule book… I lead with my heart, not my head.”

What do Princess Diana’s quotes mean in everyday language

The quote has two parts. The first part, “I don’t play by a rule book,” means you should be open to different ways of doing things. It shows that every action is not based on pre-determined rules or instructions. The second part, “I lead with the heart, not the head,” means that emotions, empathy, and personal understanding play a role in decision making. These ideas together describe a way of acting that places great importance on emotional connection. Diana, Princess of Wales says that leadership or behavior is not just about following rules or logic. It also means knowing people and meeting their needs tactfully.

A closer look at leadership beyond the rules

When people think of leadership they often think of structure, planning, and discipline. Rules help keep things clear and organized in many businesses and organizations. On the other hand, the quote shows a different side of leadership. This means that human understanding can also influence choices.Princess Diana’s leadership style showed that leaders can listen to people, understand their problems, and respond carefully. It does not replace structure; It just adds to it. This shows that being a leader is not just about having power; It’s also about building relationships.

Importance of empathy in human interaction

Empathy is the ability to understand and share how other people feel. It is an important part of how people get along with each other at work and in their personal lives. The quote talks about leading from the heart, which is similar to having empathy.Empathy makes it easier to talk to people in everyday life. This allows people to respond in a way that takes into account how other people feel. It can help people work together and become a team at work. It helps families maintain strong relationships with each other. The message of the quote is that being aware of your emotions is a part of decision making. However, this may be a big part of it.

Why does flexibility matter in real life situations?

Not following the “rule book” does not mean ignoring the rules completely. It shows that we need to be able to change. Real-life situations are often complex and do not always fit into neat structures. For example, helping someone in need may mean thinking and understanding quickly rather than following rules exactly. Likewise, different people may require different approaches to talking. This flexibility helps people to deal with changing circumstances better. The quote emphasizes this ability to adapt as an important aspect of behavior.

emotional intelligence in action

Emotional intelligence is the ability to notice, understand, and deal with emotions. It also includes being able to respond to other people’s emotions. The quote illustrates this concept in a simple way.Leading from the heart can be thought of as using emotional intelligence to make choices. It means being aware of your emotions and using that awareness to make decisions. You can see this in areas like health care, education and social work, where understanding people is important.

Public life is shaped by human interaction

Diana, Princess of Wales, became famous for her charity work and public appearances. She often spoke directly to people, helping to draw attention to important social issues. She visited hospitals, helped with charity projects and talked to people who had problems. These actions were often based on sympathy and concern, not just what was expected of them. The quote reflects this part of his public life. It shows how personal relationships can change the way people think and go about things.

balance between heart and mind

This quote talks about balance, but it also talks about leading from the heart. Decision making often involves both emotions and logic.Logic helps in planning, analysis and organization. Feeling things helps you understand people and respond carefully. In many cases both parties work together. The quote makes it clear that you should not rely on just one method. This implies that emotional understanding can be important along with organized reasoning.

Relevance in modern workplaces

Communication and working together are important in today’s workplaces. Employees work with other people, talk to customers and perform a variety of tasks. In these types of situations, knowing other people can help make things better.Flexibility can help solve problems, and empathy can help people work better together. The message of the quote applies to these places, where working with other people is a big part of the job.

How does Princess Diana’s quote apply to personal life?

The ideas in the quote can be used in more than just public roles or work settings. You can use these in your daily life also. Understanding and compassion are very important in families, friendships and communities.Everyday conversation involves listening to others, responding carefully, and adjusting to different situations. The quote brings out these actions as important parts of behavior.

Famous Quotes of Princess Diana

  • “I would like to be the queen of people’s hearts, of people’s hearts.”
  • “I want my boys to have an understanding of people’s feelings, their insecurities, people’s troubles, and their hopes and dreams.”

  • “Many people supported me throughout my public life and I will never forget them.”
  • “I know that people I have loved and have died are looking after me in the spirit world.”

An indelible message about human values

People keep sharing quotes because it shows what people value. It emphasizes empathy, understanding and connection. These values are still important today in different times and places.Quotation makes it easy to understand and use because it presents a simple idea in clear language. This shows that actions motivated by compassion can produce significant impact.

Final Conclusion from Princess Diana’s Quotes

Diana, Princess of Wales said something that clearly shows how people act and lead. This shows how important it is to be empathetic, flexible and emotionally aware when making decisions. This message still holds true in many areas of life, including work and personal relationships. It shows that rules and logic are important, but human relationships are also important when it comes to actions and outcomes.

Roots and ruptures: Trump withdraws troops from his ancestral lands after conflict with Merz

Roots and ruptures: Trump withdraws troops from his ancestral lands after conflict with Merz
US President Donald Trump (AP Photo)

TOI correspondent from Washington: In a move fraught with geopolitical tension and personal irony, US President donald trumpwhose grandfather came from Germany, giving him one of the closest generational ties to the country of any modern American leader, has ordered the withdrawal of about 5,000 US troops from Germany after Washington clashed publicly with Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the conduct of the war in Iran. The Pentagon said the withdrawal would be completed in six to twelve months after a “thorough review” of the US military situation in Europe. But officials on both sides of the Atlantic acknowledge that times are anything but normal. It follows Meraz’s unusually sharp criticism of the US campaign, in which he said Washington had entered the conflict “without any strategy” and suggested Iran was diplomatically outmaneuvering and outmaneuvering the US.US officials called the comments “inappropriate and unhelpful”, suggesting that the withdrawal was a punitive measure to send a message to NATO partners that are not living up to Trump’s expectations. Trump himself attacked Merz, saying in a social media post, “The Chancellor of Germany should spend more time on ending the war with Russia/Ukraine (where he has been completely ineffective!) and fixing his broken country, especially immigration and energy, and less time on meddling with those who are trying to get rid of the Iran nuclear threat, making the world, including Germany, a safer place!” German officials, for their part, indicated that the decision was not entirely surprising given the growing rift in the trans-Atlantic alliance, as Spain, France, Italy and Britain are increasingly being hit by Trump’s storm. The move will affect Army brigade combat teams and other units that will be part of a surge of U.S. forces in Europe after 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But it also impacts the US commitment to NATO, an alliance Trump has repeatedly criticized as unbalanced and overly dependent on US power.Germany is not just another host country. With approximately 35,000 US troops and 20 to 40 military installations, it is the central hub of US military operations in Europe, and hosts the largest concentration of US troops overseas after Japan (50,000). Facilities such as Ramstein Air Base and the headquarters of U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command underpin operations extending beyond the continent, including missions in the Middle East and Africa. Across Europe, the US maintains about 65,000 to 70,000 troops, meaning Germany alone hosts more than half the US military footprint on the continent. There is an obvious irony in Trump’s latest confrontation with Berlin. Of all modern American presidents, he has the closest generational ties to Germany. His grandfather, Frederick Trump, came from the German village of Kallstedt in the late 19th century, making Trump, whose original family name is Drumpf, a relatively recent descendant compared to predecessors such as Eisenhower and Nixon, whose German ancestry is more distant. The decision also reflects broader questions about the scale and cost of America’s global military posture. The US maintains more than 700 bases in more than 80 countries, with 170,000 to 220,000 personnel deployed overseas – an expeditionary network unmatched in modern history, the results of which have been captured in films such as Buffalo Soldiers and Sayonara. Maintaining that system costs an estimated $50 billion to $70 billion annually, covering operations, infrastructure, logistics, and personnel. Within Trump’s MAGA coalition, the withdrawal aligns with a growing sense that the US should reduce its foreign commitments and focus resources closer to home or on more pressing theaters such as the Indo-Pacific. That approach has long shaped Trump’s approach toward Europe, where he has accused allies of failing to meet defense spending commitments and being overly reliant on American security. The decision has already been criticized by US lawmakers concerned about its strategic signals. But for all its immediate political aspects, the withdrawal reflects a deeper shift in transatlantic relations. Since World War II, American forces in Germany have been a symbol not only of military power but also of the strategic and cultural bond between America and Europe. This makes the present moment all the more impressive: A president with direct family roots in Germany is presiding over a partial unraveling of the security architecture that emerged from that shared history.
