'They're doing the sensible thing': Trump says Iran has 'agreed not to have nuclear weapons'

US President Donald Trump said Iran has agreed it will “never have a nuclear weapon”, while fighting continues in the region and Tehran has publicly denied that formal talks are underway.Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump expressed confidence that diplomatic efforts were gaining momentum after nearly a month of war. He said, “The fact is that they are talking to us and they are talking intelligently. It all starts with this: They can’t have nuclear weapons. They said, what are the top 10? I said, No. 1, 2 and 3 is that they can’t have nuclear weapons… They have agreed that they will never have nuclear weapons.”

Trump also claimed that Iran had sent a “huge gift” linked to the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a sign that the US was “dealing with the right people”. He did not elaborate on the nature of the move, but linked it to broader efforts to reopen the vital oil shipping route that has been disrupted during the conflict. The President said that America is in a strong position for negotiations. He said, “We’ll have control over whatever we want. If we can end this without any more lives being lost… I would like to be able to do that. They can’t have some things. It starts with no nuclear weapons and they’ve agreed to that.”Despite Trump’s optimism, Iranian officials have rejected claims that talks are taking place. Tehran has instead struck a defiant tone, saying it will continue fighting “until complete victory”, even as international mediation efforts are gaining momentum.Pakistan has emerged as a potential mediator, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offering to host the talks. Trump acknowledged that several senior figures were involved in the outreach efforts, including Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, envoy Steve Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner.Reports suggest Washington has presented a 15-point proposal that would impose strict limits on Iran’s nuclear program, including ending uranium enrichment and transferring enriched material. In return, sanctions relief and assistance to civilian nuclear energy projects could be offered, as well as guarantees to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. There are also indications that a temporary ceasefire could be considered to make room for negotiations, although no formal agreement has been confirmed.

Even when talks are discussed, war intensifies

On the ground, the conflict shows no signs of abating. Israeli strikes have targeted allied targets throughout Iran and the region, while Iranian missiles and drones have attacked Israel and neighboring countries. The United States is also increasing its military footprint, with the 82nd Airborne Division expected to deploy about 1,000 troops to join the thousands of Marines already headed to the Middle East. The build-up has fueled speculation that Washington is preparing contingency plans even as it pursues diplomacy. At the same time, the Strait of Hormuz remains a focal point of talks, with the disruption sending global oil prices soaring and raising concerns about macroeconomic consequences.

Deploying ICE agents: ‘If you are traveling, avoid traveling…’: Immigration attorneys should be concerned that ICE agents are deployed at airports.

'If you are traveling, avoid traveling...': Immigration lawyers on who should be worried as ICE agents are deployed to airports

The deployment of ICE agents to airports across the country to assist the understaffed TSA has hit a panic button for many as they fear airports will become the arena for violent action by ICE. TSA asked to help at airports to reduce long lines as DHS funding freezes Immigration officers should not be performing their routine immigration enforcement work, but immigration experts are advising people to stay safe. Indian-origin immigration lawyer Saimitra Reddy released a video on ICE’s deployment at airports and said her intention was not to create fear but to educate people as ICE has wide discretion and can question anyone about their residence proof.

Avoid traveling if

Reddy said those who are in the gray area and their legality is not clearly defined should avoid traveling now

  • If your application is pending with USCIS
  • If you have any kind of criminal or arrest history
  • If your visa has been canceled or expired
  • If you are under any temporary status such as TPS, parole, DACA
  • If you are on a 60 day grace period on an H-1B visa

If you are on a valid visa

  • Keep proof of that visa, whether it’s your visa-stamped passport or official approval notice.
  • Carry your physical EAD card

ICE has a lot of power and they can ask anyone, including legal permanent residents and US citizens, questions about their legal status and ask for documents to prove their legal status, Reddy said, adding that if someone refuses to comply with their demands and requests, they can isolate and detain those individuals for further screening or questioning.

List of airports where ICE agents have been deployed

  • Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE)
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
  • Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport (HOU)
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
  • New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
  • Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY)
  • Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Puerto Rico
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
  • Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
  • Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT)
  • Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW)

American citizens have the right to remain silent

Legal experts said U.S. citizens have the right to remain silent when questioned by law enforcement, including ICE agents, beyond basic identification in some contexts. Lawful permanent residents and visa holders also have important rights at airports, he said, although their situation is more complex. Noncitizens, especially those without legal status, may face extensive questioning from ICE. However, they still have key rights: the right to remain silent, the right to refuse consent to a search of personal belongings in certain circumstances, and the right to request a lawyer if detained.

Karnataka University Fund: Karnataka halved university development funds in two years. bengaluru news

Karnataka halves university development funds in two years

Bengaluru: The development funds released by the state government for universities have been halved in just two years.According to the Higher Education Department, Rs 41 crore was released as grants for the development of universities in 2023-24. However, it was reduced to Rs 30 crore in 2024-25, further falling to Rs 20 crore in 2025-26.There are 32 public universities in Karnataka. The Higher Education Department said that universities are autonomous institutions and they need to raise resources internally.During the ongoing legislature session, Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar said: “The money collected from internal resources should be used as development funds. At present, more than 50% of the internal resources are spent on guest lecturers, outsourced staff and temporary teaching and non-teaching posts. This is beyond the sanctioned limit. Instead, the university should spend more on development. The university has to bear the expenses from internal resources. While staff salaries are covered by the government, universities need funds to pay guest faculty and outsourced staff. The Minister informed that currently, a request is being made to fund the salaries of outsourced employees also. Many universities said that they were not receiving any development funds in the last few years. “Most universities, including ours, depend on affiliation fees from colleges, examination and tuition fees and research funds from various sources,” said a university vice-chancellor.It may be recalled that when some universities were unable to fund pension distribution, the government had to release some funds recently to meet the shortfall.
