For years, a site believed to have been largely uninhabited between 60,000 and 12,000 years ago has been re-evaluated, as new research has revealed evidence of repeated human occupation at the Buhais Rockshelter, an archaeological site in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. These findings challenge long-held assumptions about human settlement in southeastern Arabia and paint a clearer picture of how early populations adapted to the changing environment. The study, published Monday, March 23 nature communicationIt was led by Isa Yousef, Director General of Sharjah Archeology Authority (SAA), and Dr. Saba Jassim, Advisor to the Authority. It was conducted in collaboration with researchers from the Universities of Tübingen and Freiburg in Germany, as well as Dr. Knut Bretzke of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and Professor Adrian Parker of Oxford Brookes University. Topic Evidence from the Buhais Rockshelter of human habitation in Arabia between 60,000 and 16,000 years agoResearch identifies several phases of human presence at the site, dating back to approximately 125,000, 59,000, 35,000 and 16,000 years ago. Youssef said, “The publication of this study is a major step forward in our understanding of early human history in this region. The evidence from Buhais demonstrates that southeastern Arabia was not simply a passage for early humans, but a landscape where they returned, adapted, and maintained life under changing environmental conditions.”

These findings are based on extensive archaeological excavations at the Buhais Rockshelter, located within Sharjah’s Faya Palaeolandscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2025. The results add an important new chapter to the early settlement history of the Arabian Peninsula and extend the well-established Jebel Faya archaeological sequence into a previously unspecified time frame.

For decades, it was widely believed that southeastern Arabia was largely uninhabited between 60,000 and 12,000 years ago due to extreme aridity during the last ice age. The new study directly challenges that notion. Rather than a prolonged absence of human activity, the evidence points to repeated occupation during different periods, suggesting that early humans were able to survive and bounce back despite harsh climatic conditions. Rather than representing a single phase of habitation, research confirms multiple phases of recurring human activity at the site. While evidence of human presence was already known from about 125,000 years ago, the identification of three additional phases from about 59,000, 35,000 and 16,000 years ago fills important gaps in the archaeological record of the region. These findings provide a more continuous timeline of human presence in southeastern Arabia than previously thought. This study also builds on additional paleoenvironmental research conducted within the Faya paleolandscape. This data shows that periods of human occupation coincide with phases of increased rainfall and water availability. These environmental improvements would have supported vegetation and created conditions suitable for human life, providing an obvious explanation for the repeated return of populations to the site. This is the first clear evidence linking human settlement to specific environmental conditions during this time frame in Arabia. The findings show that early populations were not only passing through the region as part of migration routes, but were also able to adapt to the changing climate and sustain life over long periods of time. The Buhais Rockshelter itself played an important role in preserving this record. Its limestone formations provided natural shelter, allowing layers of sediment to form over thousands of years. These layers, reaching a depth of about 1.7 metres, preserve stone tools and artefacts in a stratigraphic sequence, providing valuable insights into human activity in different periods. Using luminescence dating techniques, the researchers were able to determine when these sediment layers were last exposed to sunlight. This method enabled them to reconstruct a detailed timeline of both human presence and environmental change, providing a rare and well-preserved record of life in the arid landscape over thousands of years. Southeastern Arabia has long been considered a major corridor for early human movement out of Africa and into Asia. The new findings provide empirical evidence that the region was not only a passage route but also a place of repeated settlement during several stages of human evolution. This places the region at the center of ongoing scientific discussions on global human migration and the formation of early populations in Southwest Asia. Combined with nearby discoveries at Jebel Faya, which document human activity in the area dating back more than 200,000 years, the study reinforces the wider importance of the Faya paleolandscape. The site is now recognized as one of the most important and continuous records of early human occupation in an arid environment. The research also reflects decades of work led by the Sharjah Archeology Authority in collaboration with international institutions. This long-term partnership has combined scientific expertise with a shared commitment to the preservation and interpretation of early human history. The growing collection of evidence from sites such as Buhais and Jebel Faya continues to highlight the UAE and Sharjah’s contribution to the global narrative of human development, adaptation and migration.

Artemis II ARChER Wristband: What is the wearable NASA technology that astronauts will wear on the Moon?

Artemis II ARChER Wristband: What is the wearable NASA technology that astronauts will wear on the Moon?
Artemis II astronauts will wear ARChER wristbands, advanced monitors tracking sleep, stress and cognitive performance during their 10-day lunar mission. This high-tech instrument, designed for the conditions of deep space, will provide important data on crew adaptation. The aim of the research is to ensure astronaut safety for future long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars.

When NASA’s Artemis II mission launches, four astronauts will not only test new spacecraft and lunar-flight procedures, but they will also wear one of the mission’s smallest but most important scientific instruments in the form of armbands strapped to their wrists, called ARCheR.This special high-tech band is designed to record what’s happening inside their bodies and minds, far away in low Earth orbit.Unlike missions orbiting closer to Earth, Artemis II will take the crew around the Moon and return in about 10 days, subjecting them to more isolation, confinement and radiation than in recent decades.Understanding how astronauts adapt to this environment is critical if NASA wants to safely send people on long-duration missions to the Moon and eventually Mars.

All about the special wristbands Artemis‑II astronauts will wear on the Moon

As Artemis II prepares for launch on April 2, 2026, the small wristband on each astronaut’s arm could become one of the mission’s most consequential scientific instruments. The astronauts will wear the high-tech equipment as part of the Artemis Research for Crew Health and Readiness project, commonly known as the ARChER study. According to NASA and its partners, this research will track sleep, stress, cognitive performance and teamwork during the crew’s 10-day journey around the moon and back. The ARChER wristband is an advanced activity and sleep monitor, similar in concept to commercial fitness trackers but tuned for space flight.

What exactly does the ARChER wristband do?

According to NASA’s Human Research Program, instruments continuously record motion and sleep patterns while the crew is aboard the Orion spacecraft, giving scientists real-time information about how deep space conditions affect rest and physical activity. In addition to the wrist data, the astronauts will also take cognitive tests and behavioral assessments before and after the mission, so researchers can compare how they function on Earth versus in deep space. The name, ARCHeR (Artemis Research for Crew Health and Readiness), reflects exactly what NASA wants to study.

Why is this important?

This research is important because Artemis II will be the first crewed mission to leave low Earth orbit since Apollo, and the first mission to fly astronauts in an Orion vehicle. According to NASA, data from the ARChER wristband will help identify how astronauts react on long-duration missions, how they work as a team at great distances from Earth, and how useful new spacecraft systems are under stress.

No Scheduled Caste status for adopting religions other than Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism: Supreme Court. india news

No SC status on conversion to religions other than Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism: Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said a person who follows any religion other than Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism cannot be recognized as a member of a Scheduled Caste. The top court said that conversion to another religion results in loss of such status.A bench of Justices PK Mishra and NV Anjaria upheld the order of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which had ruled that persons who convert to Christianity and actively practice the faith cannot retain their Scheduled Caste (SC) status. The top court said the position is clearly laid down in the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950 and the bar on recognition is absolute. The court said that any person who does not profess any of the religions specified under clause 3 of the 1950 order ceases to be a member of a Scheduled Caste, regardless of birth. It states that such persons cannot, in accordance with live law, claim any statutory benefit, protection, reservation or right available to the Scheduled Castes under the Constitution or any law enacted by the Parliament or the State Legislatures. Emphasizing the scope of the law, the bench said a person cannot simultaneously practice a religion not listed in the 1950 order and claim Scheduled Caste status. “No statutory benefit, protection or reservation or entitlement under the Constitution or an Act of Parliament or a State legislature can be claimed or extended by a person who, by the operation of section 3, is not deemed to be a member of a Scheduled Caste. This prohibition is absolute and admits of no exceptions. A person cannot simultaneously profess or practice any religion other than the religion specified in section 3 and claim membership of a Scheduled Caste.”The decision came in a case involving a man who had converted to Christianity and was working as a priest but had filed a complaint under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act alleging assault and caste-based ill-treatment. The accused challenged the case, arguing that the complainant is no longer entitled to protection under the Act after converting to religion. The apex body found that evidence showed that the complainant had continued to practice Christianity for more than a decade and was holding regular prayer meetings at the time of the alleged incident. It said that there is no claim or evidence of re-conversion to their original religion or re-acceptance into their caste community.Agreeing with the High Court, the top court held that the caste system is separate from Christianity and, therefore, a person professing the religion cannot invoke the provisions of the SC/ST Act. It also clarified that mere possession or non-cancellation of a caste certificate does not entitle a person to claim Scheduled Caste benefits after conversion, adding that such issues should be dealt with by the competent authority under the relevant law.

Shoot at Sight: Lights, action cues and ballroom fights on the set of 'Roots'
The leading man of Root, Gautam Ram Karthik, tells us, “Root is a time-based sci-fi thriller.”

When we reached the sets of Root – Running Out of Time, the team was busy filming the fight scene between Gautam Ram Karthik and Aparshakti Khurana in a ballroom setting. The leading man of Root, Gautam Ram Karthik, tells us, “Root is a time-based sci-fi thriller. So, you have to make what’s happening in the movie believable, even if it’s unbelievable. And this team is well equipped to do that. This is a completely new experiment in my filmography.Director Suryapratap S says Gautam and Aparshakti are big assets of the film

Suryaprathap S

Root is a proper action thriller. We are shooting an important fight sequence in the ballroom today. Gautham’s character has to open many mysterious doors while investigating a series of murders. While maintaining a work-life balance between being a husband and a policeman, he has to pull many invisible strings. Aparshakti is an expert in acting and the character (Anandan) needed an actor like him. Both Gautham and she are endearing and are great assets to the film.I am playing the role of a CB-CID officer: Gautam Ram Karthik

Gautam Karthik

My character Chezhiyan is a CB-CID investigating officer. He is a bit cocky but in control at the beginning of the film. For me, every character I play is different in its own way. In this film, it is about how my character will balance the investigation and his personal time. I played the role of an undercover cop in Pathu Thala. The role is of a regular cop trying to solve a case and its scope is quite wide.

Harrison Sullivan TikTok: Jordan Stephens questions Piers Morgan’s approach as Harrison Sullivan TikTok interview turns into viral chaos

Jordan Stephens has shared his candid opinion after a viral clip showed Piers Morgan in a heated exchange with TikToker Harrison Sullivan, also known as HSTikkyTokky. The moment came following the release of Louis Theroux’s The Manosphere documentary on Netflix, in which Sullivan appeared. Soon after, Pierce invited him for an interview, but the conversation soon became tense and spread widely online. In a six-minute Instagram video, Jordan Stephens said the interview served no purpose. He felt that the discussion lacked depth and direction. According to him, the situation became exactly what Sullivan is known for, drawing reactions and attention. Jordan said Pierce should have expected this and handled it better from the beginning.

Jordan Stephens questions Piers Morgan’s interview approach with Harrison Sullivan

Jordan Stephens did not hold back in explaining his point. He said, “I was astounded by the mediocrity of Piers Morgan’s attitude towards this man. Even interviewing HS is pointless to him.” He believed the interview was more about attracting attention than getting anything meaningful across. He told that Harrison Sullivan had come prepared to provoke a reaction. “HS clearly came prepared to make him angry and Pierce completely fell for it,” Jordan said. He said that someone with Piers Morgan’s experience should have handled the situation more carefully.Jordan also told that the questions asked were not correct. Rather than trying to challenge Sullivan with moral arguments, he felt the interview should have explored his thinking. “There were more interesting questions to ask him,” he said. She suggested asking about beliefs, upbringing, and personal experiences to better understand their thoughts. He also noted that Sullivan is not a father, so his comments about rejecting a child cannot come from real life experience. Jordan said more research could have been done instead of just focusing on the arguments.Another issue Jordan raised was how people like Sullivan attract attention. He said that they grow because people react strongly to them. He explained, “Trying to bring someone on stage who is known for anger-promoting and then being anger-aggressive is completely wild and he should have been prepared.”Jordan also talked about a bigger issue. He said an important point missed in the documentary was how online platforms deliver such content to young audiences. According to him, the real concern lies here, because many young viewers are exposed to these ideas without even searching. He concluded by saying that people like Sullivan thrive on attention, but over time, such ideas may fade as people question them more.
