EasyJet flight chaos: More than 100 passengers stranded in Milan as EU entry-exit system causes major delays

EasyJet flight chaos: More than 100 passengers stranded in Milan as EU entry-exit system causes major delays
A family from Leeds and more than 100 others missed their EasyJet flight from Milan due to massive delays at passport control caused by the EU’s new entry-exit system. Despite arriving early, she faced biometric checks and slow processing, forcing her to spend £1,600 on an alternative journey. EasyJet cited border control issues, while passengers expressed frustration.

A family from Leeds spent more than £1,600 to get home after easyJet took off from Milan without them and more than 100 other passengers who were stuck in passport control queues due to the newly launched EU entry-exit system.Max Hume, 56, his wife Lynsey, 46, and their 13-year-old son Archie arrived at Milan Linate Airport about three hours before the Sunday morning flight to Manchester. He had good reason to come early. On their way to Italy a week ago they had already spent more than an hour in passport control queues. This time he reached with much time but still missed his flight.Only 34 of the 156 passengers booked on easyJet flight 5420 to Manchester boarded. The remaining 122 remained in Italy. The trouble started when the family reached passport control at 9.15 am. Frontier officials refused entry to Manchester-bound passengers because their flight had not yet been allocated a gate. Passengers flying to London on British Airways and another easyJet service were waved away during the same period, while the Manchester group waited in a standing queue in the heat. Lynsey Hume almost fainted. Another passenger was ill. When processing finally began authorities demanded full biometric registration from each passenger, including fingerprint scans and facial recognition, despite the fact that the same data had already been collected upon arrival in Italy the previous week. EU rules state that once both biometrics are registered only one should be required at subsequent crossings. Two officers worked with a single machine while 16 nearby automatic machines remained idle.By the time the family cleared passport control the plane was gone. At the gate they were told that a bus would take them to their luggage and arrangements would be made for hotel accommodation. There was no employee waiting at baggage claim. When Lynsey Hume contacted the easyJet desk she was told the family had been logged as a no-show and nothing could be done.EasyJet’s live chat told Max Hume that what happens at passport control is not the responsibility of the airline. The only option offered was to pay £110 per person for the next available flight to Manchester, five days away. The family explored alternatives. Each train ticket cost £500 for an all-day journey. A one-way car fare came to £5,000. Ultimately they booked connecting flights via Luxembourg with an overnight hotel stay at a combined cost of around £1,600. Max Hume has a credit card reaching its limit to cover expenses. He said he felt disappointed, broken and very poor. He said about 100 stranded passengers have told him they will never use easyJet again.EasyJet said it advised passengers to allow extra time at the airport and staggered flights where possible to give people more time to clear the queues. It said affected passengers have been offered free transfers and described delays at the border as being beyond its control. The EU entry-exit system was launched on Friday. It requires non-EU travellers, including British citizens, to register biometric data at European borders. Airlines for Europe told border officials the same day to suspend the system entirely when queues reached unacceptable levels. The Association of British Insurers warned travelers that standard travel insurance is unlikely to cover losses caused by EES-related delays and advised anyone affected to first contact their airline.

Elon Musk reveals he ‘felt like he was dying’ after a COVID vaccine shot; They say the virus was just a bad cold. world News

Elon Musk reveals he 'felt like he was dying' after a COVID vaccine shot; Say the virus was just a bad cold

Tech billionaire, Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk has reignited the global debate around COVID-19 vaccine safety after sharing a deeply personal account of his experience with both the virus and its vaccine. In a post on His comments, posted on April 12, 2026, came in response to testimony by former Pfizer toxicologist Dr. Helmut Sterz at a German parliamentary inquiry that discussed estimates of vaccine-related deaths. The post has since sparked a global conversation, with users sharing personal experiences while health officials reiterate established scientific findings on vaccine safety.

What did Elon Musk say about the COVID vaccine?

Musk resorted to X to draw a clear distinction between his COVID-19 infection and his vaccine experience.“The vaccine doses were clearly too high and given too frequently,” he wrote. “I had the original Wuhan virus before there was any vaccine and it was just like any other cold or flu. Bad, but not terrible. But my second vaccine almost sent me to the hospital. It felt like I was dying.”The post was a repost of content shared by Swedish journalist Peter Emanuelsson (@Petersweden7), who chronicled Dr. Helmut Sterz’s testimony before Germany’s Bundestag Corona Inquiry Commission. Musk’s comments immediately became one of the most discussed topics on the platform.

The German parliamentary testimony that started it all

At the center of the controversy is the appearance of Dr. Helmut Sterz before the Corona Inquiry Commission of the Bundestag on March 19, 2026, at the invitation of the AfD party. Sturges, a retired toxicologist who previously worked at pharmaceutical companies Roche and Pfizer, made several claims about the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. They alleged that key preclinical safety studies were ignored during development and raised concerns about long-term effects. Most controversially, they applied a multiplier to Germany’s official figure of 2,133 deaths after vaccination reported to the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, arriving at a rough estimate of 20,000 to 60,000 vaccine-related deaths in Germany based on extrapolation rather than confirmed causal data. This data has not been independently verified or supported by public health officials and is a personal interpretation, not a scientific consensus.

Elon Musk’s complicated history with COVID vaccines

This is not the first time Musk has spoken out about COVID vaccines, and his position has evolved over time.In September 2020, he had said that he would not take the vaccine. Months later, after testing positive for COVID-19, he changed his stance. As of 2021, he has publicly stated that he supports vaccines in general and COVID vaccines in particular. He later received the Johnson & Johnson shot, which he tolerated well, but later reported a stronger response to the mRNA booster dose. In January 2023, he wrote that he experienced significant side effects from the booster shot and felt seriously unwell for several days. He also mentioned a relative who developed myocarditis after vaccination.

‘I am not anti-vaccine’, Musk’s subtle stance

Despite his criticism, Musk has consistently said he is not anti-vaccine. In an interview with Tucker Carlson in 2024, he acknowledged that vaccines have saved many lives and remain important in preventing the disease. He cited the polio and smallpox vaccines as major medical achievements. Their primary concern has been the mandates rather than the vaccines themselves.“My concern was more about the demand that people have to take the vaccine and multiple boosters to do anything,” he wrote. He also said that he would not fire employees who refuse vaccination.

What does the science really say?

Health officials have consistently said COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective for most people. The World Health Organization has described these as an important tool in reducing severe disease and deaths during pandemics. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says myocarditis is a rare side effect of mRNA vaccines, which is usually mild and resolves without complications.Common side effects such as fatigue, fever, and soreness are expected immune responses and are usually short-lived. Musk did not specify his exact symptoms, making clinical interpretation difficult. The debate surrounding Musk’s comments reflects the broader tension in post-pandemic discourse between established scientific evidence and personal experiences. Although adverse events do occur, they remain rare compared to the overall benefits of vaccination in preventing serious disease. What is clear is that high-profile voices can significantly influence public perception. With Musk once again at the center of the conversation, the debate continues over vaccines, risks and personal choice.

Ghanaian footballer Dominic Frimpong murdered on team bus after armed robbery attack

Ghana’s Berekum Chelsea, a professional football club, is in shock after winger Dominic Frimpong was shot dead during an armed robbery attack on the team bus, the Ghana Football Association said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday at Goaso Bibiani Road when the team was returning from a Ghana Premier League match against Summertex in Samareboi town in southern Ghana. The Ghana Premier League is the top level of football in the West African country.

According to a club statement, armed men blocked the road and opened fire on the team bus, Reuters reports.

“On the way back from Samreboi to Berekum, our team bus was attacked by a group of armed robbers who blocked the road to prevent our passage,” the club said. “As the driver attempted to turn the bus back, masked men carrying guns and assault rifles began firing at our bus. The players and staff ran into nearby bushes to hide.”

The Ghana Football Association later confirmed that 20-year-old Frimpong died in the attack, and described his death as a major loss to football in the country.

“The GFA is deeply shocked and saddened by the sad news of the passing of Dominic Frimpong of Berekum Chelsea Football Club,” the association said. “This tragic incident is a huge loss not only for the club but for Ghanaian football as a whole. Dominic was a promising young talent whose dedication and passion for the game reflected the spirit of the league.”

The governing body said it would strengthen security arrangements for teams traveling for domestic competitions in response to the incident.

The attack has raised concerns over the safety of sports teams traveling by road in Ghana. In 2023, another club, Legon Cities, also reported an attack on their team bus after a match in Summertex, although no injuries were recorded.

How Saudi Arabia is using waste water to create a green corridor in the desert world News

How Saudi Arabia is using waste water to create a green corridor in the desert

In Saudi Arabia, efforts have been made to redefine water use in such areas, whereby the use of treated water has been employed as an innovative way of restoring the environment. In this context, Saudi Arabia’s strategy has helped establish a sustainable green belt through efforts to transform Saudi Arabia’s deserts. This is one of the efforts towards achieving sustainability in the future. Water recycling not only conserves water but also tackles other problems, including desertification and poor air quality.

Saudi Arabia is turning waste water into a sustainable resource

Wastewater reuse plans in Saudi Arabia are directly linked to the country’s transformation efforts, including the Vision 2030 initiative. Notably, up to 70% of Saudi Arabia’s treated wastewater will be reused, which is far more than has been planned for reuse in the past several decades. As MEWA says, the treated waste water is used in the process of irrigation, landscaping and afforestation. In particular, MEWA emphasizes that:“Treated wastewater is a valuable resource that contributes to sustainability and reduces dependence on limited natural resources, particularly non-renewable groundwater.”This approach follows global trends in the field, which are widely recognized around the world. Reuse of waste water has become a cornerstone solution in terms of overcoming water scarcity. Treated wastewater is a great source of irrigation water and nutrients for crops.

Green corridors in the desert: combating desertification

Creation of green corridors is one of the notable results of reusing waste water. They act as a way to stabilize soils, control sandstorms, and help create micro-climates conducive to biodiversity. As stated in the title researchMonsoonal imprint on Late Quaternary landscapes of the Rub’ al Khali desert.“, carried out by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), waste water reuse projects bring positive results to the environment. One of them is the following:“Vegetation improvement in desert environments can be achieved through irrigation using treated waste water, thereby improving soil fertility.”These projects, while being beneficial to the environment, also have an impact on improving the quality of life. For example, green belts make cities cooler and provide more recreation sites to their residents. This is seen in cities like Riyadh, which now have parks and tree-lined streets.

Innovative water management and future expansion

Furthermore, Saudi Arabia is dedicated to adopting innovative methods in water treatment by ensuring that recycled water meets standards of safety for both the environment and public health. Currently, existing state-of-the-art plants rely on multi-stage filtration and purification to make water useful for irrigation. As reported Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC)It is important to pay special attention to innovation in the industry because:“Public-Private Partnerships Driving Efficiency and Innovation in Wastewater Treatment and Reuse.”Further development of the project in the future will prove to be extremely important in meeting the goals related to sustainable development. As a result of this process, it becomes possible to create large green corridors, turning much of the desert area into a sustainable ecosystem.Innovation coupled with sustainability is now being implemented in Saudi Arabia, even though the country is one of the driest regions on earth.

Who will be the next Chief Minister of Bihar? BJP may declare face for top post on Tuesday. india news

In the posters put up in Patna, Nishant Kumar has been described as the next Chief Minister of Bihar.

file photo

New Delhi: BJP leaders in Bihar on Monday said the party’s first chief minister in the state will be identified on Tuesday, as Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is expected to reach Patna to oversee the transition of power.Chouhan, who has been appointed a central observer by the BJP high command for the election of the new legislature party leader, will visit Bihar on a day when JDU president Nitish Kumar is expected to step down as chief minister.

Watch

In the posters put up in Patna, Nishant Kumar has been described as the next Chief Minister of Bihar.

Kumar, Bihar’s longest-serving chief minister, turned 75 last month and was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha MP a week ago. He is expected to submit his resignation at the Raj Bhavan soon after his final Cabinet meeting at 11 am, where he is likely to formally announce his decision to leave office.“Shivraj Singh Chouhan ji will come to Patna tomorrow and BJP MLAs will elect their leader in his presence,” party’s Bihar unit president Sanjay Saraogi told news agency PTI.The leadership change will mark a milestone for the BJP, which is set to have its first chief minister in Bihar, the only Hindi-speaking state where the top post has so far eluded the party. Nevertheless, party leaders have remained cautious in their public comments.Minister and former Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal said, “This is an emotional moment for us. We hope Nitish Kumar will continue to guide the new government.”In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, the NDA has a strong majority with 202 seats. BJP has 89 seats, followed by JD (U) with 85 seats, while allies LJP (RV), HAM and RLM are left.Refusing to speculate on who would be chosen as the leader, Jaiswal said, “It is the collective prerogative of the legislature party. I should not venture any guesses. Let Shivraj Singh Chauhan come tomorrow. Everything will be clear.”Neither Saraogi nor Jaiswal commented on the swearing-in ceremony, although speculation is rising that it could take place on April 14, with reports suggesting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may attend it.Among the leading candidates, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary is being seen as the main contender. Chaudhary, who also holds the important home portfolio, was earlier described by Union Home Minister Amit Shah as destined to become “a big man”.However, critics within the party say Choudhary is not a lifelong Sangh Parivar member, having spent nearly two decades in rival parties including the RJD and JD(U). He also noted that he had already been appointed legislature party leader in November, suggesting that the fresh election may indicate that the BJP is considering alternative names.Another strong contender is Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, who started his political career as an ABVP activist during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and later served as Bihar BJP president before joining the Union Cabinet in 2019.Party insiders told PTI that the new chief minister is likely to be from the OBC or Dalit community, as the BJP is confident of retaining its upper caste base but wants to broaden support among other social groups in Bihar’s caste-sensitive political landscape shaped by Mandal-era politics.Meanwhile, attention has also shifted to Nitish Kumar’s only son Nishant, who joined JDU only last month. Some JD(U) leaders have suggested that the 44-year-old, who is not yet a member of the state legislature, could be included in the new cabinet as deputy chief minister. Others believe that Nitish Kumar, who reportedly allowed his son’s political entry only under pressure from party workers, would prefer him to gain experience before assuming any big position. For now, it appears that father and son are accepting the change with peace, as their belongings are being moved to 1, Anne Marg, another government bungalow near the Chief Minister’s official residence, ready to welcome a new resident.
