
Dhupguri (SC) is a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, located in the Dooars region of North Bengal with a mix of semi-urban and rural areas. Candidates in 2026 include Dr Nirmal Chandra Roy of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Naresh Chandra Roy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Harish Chandra Roy of Congress.
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, this constituency was won by BJP’s Bishnu Pada Ray over TMC by a slim margin of 3,948 votes, highlighting the sharply divided voter base. Following the death of the sitting MLA, a by-election was held in 2023, which was won by TMC’s Nirmal Chandra Roy, bringing the constituency back to the ruling party.
Livelihoods related to agriculture, small businesses and tea plantations contribute significantly to the local economy. The major issues relate to infrastructure, employment and agriculture concerns. Residents often raise demands for better roads, drainage systems, drinking water supply and reliable electricity. Farmers and agricultural workers stress the need for better irrigation, crop support and protection from flood damage.
Voting was held in this constituency on April 23 under Phase 1. There was 94.76% voting in Jalpaiguri district.
