Mars’ rotation is accelerating at an unprecedented rate: Scientists explain why.

Mars' rotation is accelerating at an unprecedented rate: Scientists explain why

Mars is considered a quiet, or rather ‘dormant’ planet, which is cold, dusty and geologically not very active. But recent scientific findings have managed to change the way we view Mars in unexpected ways. Researchers have found that Mars is accelerating its rotation every year, causing small but significant increases in its day. Although the speed of rotation of Mars is incredibly low, its significance has managed to catch the interest of researchers all over the world. With highly accurate data collected by NASA’s InSight LanderNot only have researchers been able to confirm the motion, but they are now also able to understand the underlying causes of this phenomenon.

Rotation speed of Mars: what scientists discovered

The discovery was made possible through NASA’s InSight mission, which used a highly sophisticated instrument called Rotation and Internal Structure Experiment (RISE)To study the orbit of Mars. Through study,’Mars’ spin state and deep interior structure from InSight radio tracking,’ the team was able to determine that Mars’ spin speed is increasing by 4 milliseconds each year, which translates into a Martian day shortening by a fraction of a millisecond each year. Although this discovery may not seem very important, the level of accuracy required to make the discovery is impressive. According to Sébastien Le Maistre, the study’s lead scientist, “It takes a very long time and a lot of data to see these small changes.” It not only marks an impressive scientific discovery but also highlights the level of development in space observation technology.

Why is Mars spinning faster?

It was not immediately known what it might be. Initial theories were that perhaps a change in the mass distribution on Mars might be responsible. This can happen in many ways. Perhaps ice has accumulated on the polar caps of Mars. The ground may be slowly freezing due to previous ice layers. This could lead to changes in distribution on a large scale. This is because when this happens, Mars’ rotation speeds up. It is similar to an ice skater moving around on an ice rink. When they bring their legs inward, they move more quickly. More recent (2026) study by Advancing Earth and Space Sciences Hinted that something more complex is going on. This is because a massive clump of lighter elements rising within the Martian mantle could potentially be responsible. This is a negative mass anomaly that is accelerating Mars’ orbit. This is similar to pulling something inward while rotating.

What this means for Mars’ interior and evolution

Its implications extend far beyond the simple matter of rotation. If the mantle plume is indeed the cause of this movement, it suggests that the planet itself is not as dead as scientists had believed. It may actually be active below the surface. This activity may also extend to volcanic regions such as Tharsis, where some of the largest volcanoes in the Solar System can be found. Speaking about the significance of the discoveries made by the InSight probe, bruce bannerdt“It’s really cool to be able to get this latest measurement,” the InSight mission principal investigator said of the experience.

Why does Mars’ rotation matter for future missions?

The reason to know the rotation of Mars is not just academic; This has many implications. Knowing the rotation of Mars is important for navigation and landing missions. This is important for any future human missions to Mars.Small changes in the calculations of spacecraft and timing systems can be significant. Mars missions are becoming more and more sophisticated; Therefore, accuracy is important.

A planet more alive than we thought

Mars remains a wonder for scientists, revealing its hidden complexity. What was considered a stable world is now showing signs of subtle but significant change. The fast rotation is a small hint of a larger story of internal motion, long-lasting heat, and evolution.Mars may be a more dynamic world than anyone imagined, reminding us that even the quietest planets can hide powerful secrets within them.

India has started the process of leapfrogging from 5G to 6G: Scindia | india news

India has started the process of leapfrogging from 5G to 6G: Scindia

New Delhi: Communications Minister, India has started the process of leapfrogging from 5G to 6G Jyotiraditya Scindia Said on Thursday.“This process is being started today with respect to global standards of technology, interoperability. This is being done in the International Telecommunication Union and 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project), both of which are standard-setting bodies for the world. We see standards and implementation taking place only by 2030. So, we are still in a state of discussion. But the difference is that India was nowhere at the table with regard to global standard setting for telecommunications on 3G or 4G. “We made our first foray into 5G when we presented a proposal for ubiquitous connectivity around the world,” he said. This time, as far as 6G is concerned, “we are partners on that roundtable”, he said. “This is the first time in the history of independent India that the country is at the standard-setting table for the telecom technology that is being launched. We have established the India 6G alliance in 2024, implementing PM Modi’s early vision when 5G was not even fully launched post-Covid in 2023,” he said.He said that the India 6G alliance started with 14 members and now it has grown to 85 members. tnn

He will always score runs and is capable of giving good starts consistently. He said, “They bought him at a very good price. I think hungry players who were not sold last year always come with something to prove. Prithvi Shaw will come with a point to prove.”The former opener’s recent domestic form lends credence to Pathan’s argument. After switching to Maharashtra, Shaw performed brilliantly and finished as their highest run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.‘Pressure leads to failure’While supporting Shaw’s return, Pathan also issued a warning. “The hungry players who have been eliminated are very excited, but at the same time, they also put a lot of pressure on themselves to perform. This pressure always leads you to failure,” he warned. He also acknowledged other options in the team, including Abhishek Porel, but stressed on clarity in roles. He said, “They have the option of Abhishek Porel. But I think they should go with Prithvi Shaw and give him clarity about his role.”Rahul is ready for another big seasonMeanwhile, Rahul is entering IPL 2026 on strong form after a stellar previous campaign, where he scored 539 runs at an average of 53.90 and a strike rate close to 150. With over 5,200 IPL runs already, he now has his sights set on the milestone of 6,000 runs – which has been achieved by only a few great players including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. With DC set to begin their campaign against the Lucknow Super Giants, all eyes will be on whether the Pathan-backed opening pair take shape – and whether Shaw can really deliver on his “provable point”.

Rain commute in UAE: When does your travel time count as paid working hours in the Emirates?

Rain Commuting in UAE: When does your travel time count as paid working hours in the Emirates?
Rain forecast in UAE: When travel time in the Emirates counts as working hours, explained

As heavy rains and volatile weather disrupt daily life across the UAE, one question has come to center stage for thousands of workers:If your commute is delayed RainDoes that time count as working hours? The answer is not as simple as yes or no. It sits at the intersection of labor law, safety policies and the evolution of workplace flexibility and understanding it can make a real difference to your rights as an employee.

General rules: There are no commuting hours in the UAE

Under UAE labor law, the baseline is that travel time between home and office does not count as working hours. This applies regardless of:

  • even if you drive yourself
  • use public transport
  • or take the company bus

Under normal circumstances, your workday officially begins when you arrive at your workplace, not when you leave home.

Exception: When the rules change for rain worker in united arab emirates

However, during adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain, UAE law makes important exceptions. According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), commute time can be counted as working hours in specific cases.

  1. When there is a delay due to bad weather: If inclement weather has been officially declared, a warning has been issued by the National Meteorological Center and your travel is significantly delayed, your travel time may be counted as part of your working hours. This is especially relevant during heavy rainfall, flooded roads and reduced visibility.
  2. If you are using company transportation: If your employer provides transportation and the vehicle breaks down, gets stuck in traffic due to rain or is delayed due to an accident, that commute time will be counted as paid Working time. This rule is especially important for construction workers, industrial employees, and employees living in company housing.
  3. If your contract says so: There is also a third, often overlooked, scenario. If your employment contract clearly includes commute time as working hours, it is legally counted whether it rains or not. This is more common in field-based roles, jobs with long-distance travel, and senior or specialized positions.

At first glance, counting commute time during rain may seem unusual but it lies in worker safety. During extreme weather, commutes become longer and riskier, employees lose productive hours through no fault of their own and safety becomes a priority over punctuality. The law recognizes that in such cases the burden should not fall entirely on the employee.

What about overtime in UAE?

This is where things get more subtle. Even if commute time is counted, it does not automatically mean overtime payment and total working hours must still comply with UAE limits. Under Labor Law:

  • Standard work = 8 hours per day / 48 hours per week
  • Overtime limits are set and regulated separately

So, if your travel delay increases your total hours, whether you get extra pay depends on:

  • your employer’s policy
  • Terms of your contract
  • How many total hours were worked that day

Are UAE companies required to offer remote work?

This is one of the biggest misconceptions during rainy days. Remote work is not mandatory for private companies in the UAE. However, officials strongly encourage flexible arrangements during inclement weather and employers are urged to prioritize the safety and well-being of employees.

Rain causes chaos in UAE, but are you allowed to work from home?

Rain causes chaos in UAE, but are you allowed to work from home?

In practice, this means that some companies allow working from home while others accommodate the timing while some still require attendance at the office. It ultimately depends on the discretion of the company. Here’s how the rule works in everyday situations:

Scenario 1: You are stuck in rainy UAE traffic in your car

  • usually doesn’t count work hours
  • Unless the weather is officially declared severe

Scenario 2: Your UAE company bus is delayed due to floods

Scenario 3: You arrive late due to heavy rain warning in UAE

  • May count as hours worked (on a case-by-case basis)

Scenario 4: Commute time is included in your UAE contract

  • Always counted, regardless of the season

What most employees forget is that although the law provides exceptions, implementation is not automatic. In many cases, the calculation of travel time depends on employer approval, internal human resources policies, and documentation of the delay. This means that two employees in similar circumstances may be treated differently. Clarity often comes in communication, and not just in law. Conversations about commute times reflect broader changes in the UAE workplace.

Stuck in traffic during rain in UAE? you can get paid for it

Stuck in traffic during rain in UAE? you can get paid for it

From fixed office hours and strict attendance rules to flexible schedules, remote work options and safety-first policies, extreme weather events are accelerating this shift and forcing companies to rethink how work is measured. Under normal circumstances, commute time is not working time, but during rain or disruption, it may be considered, but only in specific cases. The main triggers are official weather warnings, employer-provided transportation delays, and contractual agreements. In the UAE, rain doesn’t just slow down traffic, it can reshape your workday calculations but the rule isn’t automatic. It lives in a gray zone between law and policy, where awareness matters, documentation matters and understanding your rights matters most because when the roads are flooded, your time may be worth more than you think.
