Uttarakhand Chief Minister calls the opposition ‘anti-women’ for stopping women’s reservation. india news
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the opposition parties, accusing them of being “anti-women” and deliberately stalling the progress of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act.Saying that those who ruled for 60 years failed to secure women’s rights, Dhami credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the passage of the 33% reservation bill, while claiming that the opposition is now creating hurdles to stop its 2029 implementation.
Speaking to reporters, Dhami said, “Those who ruled the country for six decades after independence never did anything for women’s rights. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which provides 33% reservation for women, was passed by the Parliament.” When it was scheduled to be implemented from 2029 with amendments, they created hurdles and stopped women’s rights and representation. They are anti-women and they have been exposed in front of the country.”This comment has come in the background of the Constitution Amendment Bill not being passed in the Lok Sabha, on which leaders of all political parties have reacted sharply. The Lok Sabha took together to pass the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, the Delimitation Bill and the Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill. After the debate on the three bills, in the division of votes on the Constitution Amendment Bill, 298 members voted in favor and 230 members voted against. After the Constitution Amendment Bill was defeated, the government later said it did not want to pursue two other related bills. The purpose of the bills was to increase the strength of the Lok Sabha from 543 to 816 with 33% reservation for women. The delimitation was to be done on the basis of 2011 census. The government said there will be a proportionate increase in seats for all states.Opposition parties said that they are strongly in favor of women’s reservation but are against the delimitation bill. He called upon the government to implement women’s reservation in the existing strength of the Lok Sabha.
