Summon the messenger on the oppression of Muslims, demand from Jamaat

Dhaka: Days after BJP’s victory in Assam and West Bengal elections, allies of Bangladesh’s largest Islamic political party Jamaat-e-Islami have accused Muslims of continued persecution across the border and said “anti-Bangladesh” forces will continue to “incite, communalise and spread propaganda”.While the Bangladesh Khilafat Majlish (BKM) on Sunday alleged repression of Muslims in India, especially in the two states bordering Bangladesh, and demanded recall of the Indian envoy from Dhaka, NCP convenor and MP Nahid Islam recently said developments in India could have an “impact” on Bangladesh. However, the ruling BNP has said that Dhaka wants an honest and neighborly relationship with New Delhi based on mutual respect and peaceful co-existence.Criticizing the Bangladeshi government’s “inaction” and not inviting the Indian envoy, senior BKM functionary Anwar Hossain Razi said, “We call on the media to present the truth about what is happening in India. The government is silent. It is time for our media to play an effective role.” Jamaat’s comments come when Dhaka and Delhi are considering improving relations.
