The announcement was made during the company’s upfront presentation, where Diesel revealed that streaming platform Peacock is expanding the blockbuster franchise to television.“Peacock is launching four shows into the Fast and the Furious universe,” Diesel told the audience during his appearance on stage, Deadline reports.Although details about the upcoming web series have been kept under wraps, Diesel shared, “As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we realized that fans wanted more, they wanted us to expand on the legacy characters, their stories. And our desire for the last decade has been to enter the TV space,” he said.The film’s official handle shared the news with a post that read, “You, the family, made this possible. 25 years of loyalty. See you soon.”According to the actor, although he had doubts about the web series, his confidence in taking the franchise to television grew after Donna Langley took over oversight of NBCUniversal’s television operations last year. He said, “That’s when I realized that the sincerity of the characters, the international appeal, was what made us all feel like the family would be preserved in the TV realm.”The ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and the Cannes Film Festival will mark the milestone with a special screening of the original film. According to reports, the original star of the film is Vin Diesel. Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster are expected to attend.The ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, spanning 11 films, has grossed more than US$7 billion worldwide. The franchise is one of Universal’s most successful cinematic properties. Universal Pictures announced that the new film will be titled ‘Fast Forever’, which will be released in theaters on March 17, 2028. The film will follow ‘Fast X’, which was released in 2023 and directed by Louis Leterrier.
