New Delhi: NCP (SP) Maharashtra MLAs went straight to the Municipal Corporation headquarters on horseback in protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to people to use less fuel amid the Middle East crisis.MLA Jitendra Awhad along with several party leaders and workers led the unusual protest in Thane, symbolically traveling on horses and bullock carts to “save fuel”.Local party leaders including Thane city president Manoj Pradhan and opposition members also participated in the agitation.PM Modi on Monday called on citizens to prioritize work from home and reduce foreign trips to save fuel after the US-Israel launched war on Iran, which has blocked oil supplies globally.PM Modi had said, “Wherever possible, use metro and public transport; opt for carpooling; prefer railways as a mode of goods transport; and wherever possible, increase the use of electric vehicles. Let us all come together and make every effort to conserve energy in our daily lives, so that the economic burden currently falling on the country can be reduced.”NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar demanded clarification from the government on the health of the Indian economy. “Given the seriousness of the issue, the Prime Minister should convene an all-party meeting under his chairmanship. Taking all party leaders into confidence and conducting the decision-making process on matters of national interest is absolutely essential for the well-being of the country,” he said in a post on Twitter.
