For most professional athletes, career-defining moments usually involve trophies, rankings, or championship wins. But for Aaron Rae, the most important thing to come out of a golf tournament had nothing to do with golf. This was to meet the woman who would eventually become his wife.And honestly, their story sounds straight out of a rom-com – just with golf clubs instead of coffee shops.In 2018, Aaron Rae was in India to compete at the Hero Indian Open, a major event on the DP World Tour calendar. At the same tournament, Gaurika Bishnoi, herself a successful golfer and former No. 1 player on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour, was present.The fun part? At first they did not even meet directly.Gaurika’s brother was volunteering with Rai’s group during the tournament, and since the event was being held at her home club, she casually accompanied him. Not in any fanciful way, as she later clarified – just supporting her brother and spending time at the tournament.

Then fate stepped forward quietly.During the round, Gaurika interacted with Aron’s mother Dalveer Shukla. The two immediately connected, and by the end of the day, Aron’s mother apparently insisted that Gaurika wait because she wanted him to meet her son.And well… the rest wrote themselves.Fast forward a few years, the couple officially got married in London in July 2025. But what makes their relationship different isn’t just the cute “how we met” story. The fact is that they really seem to work like a team – both in life and in sports.

Aaron has opened up about how important Gaurika has been in his journey, especially professionally. And not in the usual “she’s supportive” celebrity-interview way, either. He really credits him for helping him become a better player and person.According to him, having a partner who understands the mental side of professional sports makes a big difference. Since Gaurika is also a golfer, she understands the pressure, discipline, frustration and mindset required to survive at that level.Aaron has said many times that their feedback, whether it’s about technique, mentality, or even how he handles himself during tournaments, has been incredibly valuable. In fact, he admitted that without their support he probably wouldn’t be where he is today. And honestly, there’s something refreshing about that level of honesty.Many successful athletes talk about hard work and discipline, but not many talk about the role healthy relationships play in one’s success. Having someone who understands your world without needing constant explanations can make a huge difference emotionally and mentally.The couple now spend a lot of time practicing together at their home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where Aaron regularly trains at TPC Sawgrass. But according to him, these practice sessions are not easy on his ego at all.In fact, Aaron openly jokes that Gaurika often beats him during competitions, chipping games, and practice sessions on the Trackman. He admitted that he is usually the one who tries to keep up with her.Even when they play full rounds together, he says the competition is surprisingly close — though he gives himself a slight advantage because he’s spent a little more time playing at Sawgrass. To be honest, their relationship feels less like a typical celebrity sports romance and more like two people who genuinely enjoy growing up in the same world together. There is friendship, mutual respect, competitiveness and support – which is probably why their story resonates with so many people.And perhaps this is what makes it special.Because Aaron Rai may win more tournaments and titles in the future, but it seems quite clear that the best thing he took home from the Hero Indian Open wasn’t the trophy – it was meeting the person he ultimately started his life with.
