New Delhi: Congress party president is going to make a comeback in Tamil Nadu cabinet after almost 60 years Mallikarjun Kharge On Wednesday, approval was given to include MLAs Rajesh Kumar and P Vishwanathan in the cabinet led by Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay.This announcement was made by Congress National General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal. He said that the MLA will take oath as minister on Thursday.“Hon’ble Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the inclusion of Congress MLAs Advocate Rajesh Kumar and Thiru P. Vishwanathan in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet, and they will take oath as ministers tomorrow. This is a historic occasion for us, as the Congress joins the Tamil Nadu Cabinet after a long gap of 59 years!” Venugopal posted on X.“I extend my best wishes to him. We are confident that he will fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu and the LOP will work to realize the bold vision of welfare and pro-people governance set by Rahul Gandhi,” he said.The Congress had contested the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23 in alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which was voted out after just one term. Vijay’s TVK, launched in February 2024, emerged as the largest party, but fell short of the majority in the 234-member assembly by 10 seats.Subsequently, the actor-turned-politician sought support from the Congress, which he got on the condition that no “communal forces” would be included in the alliance. Later, Viduthalai Chiruthigal Katchi (VCK) and Left parties also supported TVK, which helped it cross the majority mark.Both the DMK and its arch rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) had ruled Tamil Nadu since 1967 before TVK’s surprise victory. Neither the DMK nor the AIADMK gave posts to their allies in their governments.The MK Stalin-led party accused Congress of backstabbing and broke the alliance.
