New Delhi: Fingerprints and blood stains found on the dumbbell emerged as crucial forensic evidence linking 28-year-old Ankur to the alleged murder of his wife. LampblackIn January, a SWAT commando of the Delhi Police Special Cell was at Mohan Garden in southwest Delhi, the police said in the charge sheet filed before the Dwarka court.The over 500-page chargesheet filed last month names over 35 witnesses and alleges murder and cruelty by a married woman’s husband or relatives. The police have also added the section of dowry death against Ankur’s parents. The incident was recorded on January 23 at the couple’s residence in Mohan Garden.According to police, investigators recovered a dumbbell from the scene, which was allegedly used in the attack. Forensic analysis revealed fingerprints and blood stains on the object, strengthening the case against the accused.Ankur was arrested soon after the incident and is currently in judicial custody. Police said the couple had frequent disputes before the crime, which escalated on the day of the incident.During interrogation, Ankur reportedly told the police that the argument broke out after Kajal objected to giving pocket money to her younger brother. “He said his wife argued over the issue. He tried to pacify her but failed. In anger, he picked up a dumbbell and hit her on the head several times,” police said.After battling for life and death for several days, Kajal died on January 27.Police said Kajal had joined Delhi Police in 2022 and was later posted as a commando in the Special Cell’s SWAT team. In 2023, she married Ankur, a defense ministry clerk posted in Delhi Cantt. The couple has a one-and-a-half year old son and are residents of Ganaur in Sonipat district of Haryana.Kajal’s elder brother, who is also a 2018 batch Delhi Police constable, has alleged that Ankur physically assaulted him, demanded dowry and continuously harassed him.
