Aizawl: State Election Commissioner H Lalthalangliana said the counting of votes for the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections will begin at 8 am on Monday..Lalthlangliana said the counting of votes will take place at the premises of the Aizawl District Deputy Commissioner’s office, where four counting halls have been set up with a total of 36 counting tables. “Elaborate security arrangements have also been made to ensure peaceful and smooth counting of votes,” he said.Votes cast by the elderly, especially the disabled and sick, as well as those cast by election officials through voting at home, will be counted first ahead of the April 21 vote. He said, after this the votes cast through EVMs will be counted.A total of 68 candidates contested the AMC elections. The ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Mizo National Front (MNF) and Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) are contesting on all seats, while BJP is contesting on 11 seats.
