Attackers active at Islamic Center of San Diego, nearby elementary school evacuated
An active shooter was reported at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday as helicopter footage showed at least one person in a tactical vest had been shot. Hundreds of police vehicles lined up outside the center just minutes after the initial call about an active shooter. An elementary school next to the Islamic center was also evacuated by police because adults were still inside the center. According to KGTV San Diego, police are conducting a door-to-door search of the neighborhood to find the shooter.“I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am receiving updates from law enforcement. Emergency crews are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area,” Mayor Todd Gloria posted to X.The public in the surrounding areas were advised to stay safe in their homes and stay away from the area.San Diego Police updated, “The scene at 7050 Ekstrom Ave. is still active but controlled. We have significant resources on scene at this time. We have established a recon location at 4125 Hathaway Street, SD, CA 92111.”“Gavin Newsom has been briefed about an evolving situation in San Diego’s Clairemont community near the Islamic Center. The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (@Cal_OES) is coordinating with local law enforcement. We are grateful to the first responders working to protect the community and urge everyone to follow the guidance of local officials,” Newsom’s press office posted.
