H-1B Redditor says he applied for over 1500 jobs across the US, internet says 'go back home'
H-1B Redditor says no response even after applying for 1500+ jobs.

A Reddit post by a man claiming to be an H-1B visa holder went viral as he said he applied for over 1,500 roles across the US in the past few months and did not receive a single call from any recruiter. The Redditor revealed his background that he is not new and has an H-1B visa and has been working as a data engineer in Ohio for more than three years. But his current company has decided not to renew his H-1B application and that is why he is looking for a job.“I have practical industry experience building pipelines, working with cloud technologies, ETL workflows, and production systems. Unfortunately, my current company has decided not to renew H1B applications, which has forced me to actively seek new opportunities,” the Redditor wrote.“What’s mentally exhausting is the complete silence despite applying everywhere across the country. At this point, I really don’t know if it’s the market, my location, visa sponsorship concerns, or something else entirely,” the Redditor wrote, asking for help from the community. This post went viral for several reasons at a time when the Donald Trump administration is taking steps to stop H-1B fraud and OPT fraud. But most of the reactions were angry, asking them to go back home. The overall perception was that three years of experience is not a good field nor is data engineering a good field. Many people commented that the situation is very clear: a temporary worker on a temporary visa is no longer needed in the US and should go home.A section of commentators expressed surprise that H-1B visa holders, considered highly skilled, are not finding jobs in the country. One wrote, “Not a single call – it means your skills are useless and no one is interested in your experience. You want a job in data engineering, good luck with that as there are thousands of candidates unemployed in the market. Better pack your stuff and go back home before your savings run out.”

Iga Swiatek is once again advancing at Roland Garros. The four-time French Open champion defeated fellow Polish player Magda Linette 6-4, 6-4 in Paris on Friday to book her place in the fourth round. The win also gave Swiatek a brief chance at revenge after Linnett defeated her at the Miami Open earlier this season. The win was Swiatek’s third consecutive win at this year’s tournament and kept alive his hopes of adding another Roland Garros title to his collection. Next, she will face Marta Kostyuk, who reached the fourth round after defeating Viktorija Golubić in straight sets and extending her clay-court winning streak. However, after her latest win, Swiatek wasn’t just talking about tennis. Instead, he shared how Rafael Nadal’s lessons have helped him deal with difficult moments and stay focused during matches. Nadal, who won Roland Garros a record 14 times, spent time working with Swiatek earlier this year and says those conversations will continue to help him on court.

Iga Swiatek says Rafael Nadal’s advice and mentality will continue to help him at Roland Garros

Speaking after her win over Magda Linette, Swiatek explained that Nadal’s biggest influence was not just technical advice. “There were some technical tips, but the most you can learn from Rafa is his approach to the game and he also showed that it is not always easy,” Swiatek said.“It seems like when he lifts his trophy on TV, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. Even the best players in the world struggle sometimes. He got over it and worked at this thing and never gave up.“Rafa is the perfect example of that and he can share some stories with me too, which is amazing because he’s really open to advice and I really appreciate that.”Swiatek began teaming up with Nadal’s former coach Francisco Roig at the beginning of the clay-court season. This partnership began after his coaching relationship with Wim Fiset ended. Roig was part of Nadal’s team during many of the Spaniard’s great successes and has also worked with Emma Raducanu and Giovanni Mpeteschi Pericard. So far, Swiatek and Roig have worked together during tournaments in Stuttgart, Madrid and Rome. Although she has not won a title since the partnership began, her performance in Paris shows that she is gaining confidence at the right time. Roland Garros has been one of the most successful tournaments of Swiatek’s career. It won the trophy in 2020 and then won three consecutive titles from 2022 to 2024. Over the years, very few players have managed to stop him in Paris. Now, having been assured of another fourth round appearance, Swiatek remains one of the strongest contenders for the title. Her next challenge against Marta Kostyuk is expected to be much tougher, but the lessons she learned from Rafael Nadal will continue to help her as the tournament reaches its biggest stage yet.

Shubman Gill 104 ends Suryavanshi’s IPL 2026 party, prepares for Gujarat vs RCB final

Brief Scores: Gujarat Titans (219/3 in 18.4 overs) defeated Rajasthan Royals (214/7) by 7 wickets in Qualifier 2 to reach the IPL final. Gill (104)

And just like that, the Vaibhav Suryavanshi show is over for IPL 2026. Gujarat Titans put an end to 15 years of this brutal, incredible, thoroughly entertaining party, defeating Rajasthan Royals and storming into the final.

GT vs RR, Qualifier 2: highlighted | Achievement:

A breathtaking 96 from Suryavanshi, breathtaking not in the way his explosive strokeplay usually is, but in the painful, laborious, tough-every-run way – built against tight plans and a brilliant fast bowling display from the Gujarat Titans, was ultimately not enough in Mullanpur on Friday, May 29.

Scoring his maiden IPL century, Shubman Gill had other ideas Probably the best moment in two years. Gujarat Titans chased 215 – a target of over 200 for the first time this season – with seven wickets and eight balls to spare, with Gill and Sai Sudarshan making a brilliant 167-run opening stand that made it all look like a Sunday outing.

Both captains had said that they would have batted first and hoped that the pitch would help the team score the total. It didn’t work out that way – or perhaps more accurately, Gill and Sudarshan refused to do it.

They will now face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final – their third in five seasons – a rematch of Qualifier 1, where Gill’s team was defeated by the defending champions. But they head to Ahmedabad brimming with confidence, and the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday promises to be an exciting battle. But that’s for another day.

For now, back to New Chandigarh.

Not many people came to the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium wearing a Shubman Gill shirt, not even in the Test captain’s own backyard. Nearly half the crowd, including children, had traveled alone for one reason: Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Both the Captain and the Schoolboys gave them a lot to be happy about, but it was Punjab Da Puttar who walked away with the bragging rights when it mattered most. And that’s why teams keep struggling to make the top two.

It buys you something priceless: a second chance, a clean slate, a path to the finals even if injured. After Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Gujarat Titans in Dharamshala on Tuesday, Gujarat Titans were in exactly the same position – bruised, battered, and criticized by many. Yet they walked away free of the memory of that defeat, like a side suffering from selective amnesia.

Their bowling attack rose to the occasion and restricted Rajasthan Royals to 214 runs despite one of the most mature and brilliant innings from Suryavanshi in the IPL.
And with the bat, he was clinical and determined from the first ball. It was exactly the kind of win Gujarat Titans needed – validation of their process, their belief in a more conservative style than most in this T20 tournament on steroids.

Even on the eve of the game, when assistant coach Parthiv Patel was asked whether Gujarat were one-dimensional, predictable in their batting and bowling plans, he bristled. “Everyone has a different way of playing. We have our own style. Even in the first part of the tournament, when we were not doing that well and were doing okay, we still stuck to our process. We are confident in our ability and we know what we can do,” he said.

And that process was no secret. Gujarat Titans were a top-heavy batting team – they needed Gill, Sai Sudarshan and Jos Buttler to play big innings. They relied heavily on their in-form new ball pair of Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada to defend or set up scores. Nine of their 14 league wins were built on exactly the same script. No surprises, no trickery – just backing your best players to perform well, and often, they did.

Then came Qualifier 1, and the wheels came off brilliantly. None of the top three shot. Siraj and Rabada were taken to the cleaners. The pace not only slowed down – it collapsed. After defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad, they did the same as they traveled from Dharamshala to New Chandigarh to face Rajasthan Royals.

Yet Gujarat came out looking like a team that has completely erased the memories of Tuesday. Before this season they had never even come close to chasing 200-plus. Yet under the immense pressure of their campaign, their always reliable opening batsmen did what they do best.

Sixteen runs were scored in the first over bowled by Jofra Archer – declaring their intentions loud and clear. Even after this he did not step back. Sudarshan was dismissed for 14, the only chance the pair had in the first ten overs. There was no ruckus, no careless swing – the first six of Gujarat’s innings did not come until the ninth over. But by then he had crossed 100.

That foundation set them up for a relatively comfortable second half, even if Sudarshan fell to another odd hit wicket. Gill, regardless of this, scored 104 runs in 53 balls to take the Titans to the final.

Canada plunged into technical recession? Pierre Poilievre criticizes Mark Carney, says no other G7 country is in this position

Canada plunged into technical recession? Pierre Poilievre criticizes Mark Carney, says no other G7 country is in this position
Growth figures suggest Canada has entered what many experts would call a technical recession.

Canada entered what many experts would call a technical recession after reporting two consecutive quarters of contraction in economic growth. Statistics Canada said real gross domestic product fell 0.1 per cent on an annual basis in the first three months of this year. This comes after a one percent decline in the fourth quarter of 2025.The last time Canada was in a technical recession was in 2020, during the beginning of the pandemic. Before that, it was during the oil shock of early 2015.Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre criticized Prime Minister Mark Carney, saying he was the only leader in the G7 who led his country into recession. All other G7 countries face similar tariffs and problems but none have fallen into recession.“Excuses, speeches, discussions and signing ceremonies do not grow the economy,” he said.“Mark Carney is the only leader in the G7 to slide his economy into recession. All other G7 countries are facing similar tariffs and global problems, yet none are in recession…Canada is the only G7 country in recession because of the Carney Liberals increasing industrial carbon taxes, maintaining anti-growth laws and doubling Trudeau’s deficit,” Poilievre said.

What does a tech recession mean for Canada?

There is debate over whether the situation can be called a technical recession or not, as first quarter GDP was unchanged compared to a decline in the fourth quarter of last year. Douglas Porter, chief economist at BMP Capital Markets, said the difference between annual and non-annual figures leaves room for debate over whether it could be called a technical recession. He said the decline in the first quarter has been very small and can be easily revised. April’s 0.4 percent growth also offers a great glimmer of hope.“It’s very possible, you know, it could be a statistical mirage. But I don’t think it’s a debate that we’ve seen basically no growth in the last year,” Porter told CBC News. The Bank of Canada has said that the growth rate this year is likely to be 1.2 percent, which was 1.7 percent last year. It will update its projections in July.

Trump $250 bill: A note of discord: America is divided over the proposed Donald Trump $250 bill

A note of discord: America is divided over Donald Trump's proposed $250 bill
A note of discord: America divided over proposed Trump $250 bill

TOI correspondent from Washington: America, a republic that was founded in rebellion against monarchy and was once a little shy about personality cults, is now considering celebrating its 250th birthday by putting Donald Trump’s face on a new $250 bill — a value so strangely specific that it seems less like legal tender and more like a minimum spending requirement at a casino. The proposal, once dismissed as Internet satire, turned into reality this week when Treasury Secretary Scott Besant confirmed that the administration has already prepared designs for the bill “if Congress approves it.” Critics who assumed the story was a parody need to check whether the Treasury Department has opened a spoof division.“We’ve got the bill done,” Besant said with a smile at a White House briefing on Thursday, before adding that Treasury was only “making preparations” and that Congress would eventually decide whether the United States should begin circulating a note bearing the likeness of a living president. The “Donald J. Trump $250 Bill Act” proposed by South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson would be an exception to an 1866 federal law that prevents living people from appearing on U.S. currency.According to the leaked memo, the design – by British “royal portrait artist” Ian Alexander – features Trump’s trademark campaign trail glower, surrounded by the colors of the American flag and his own ECG-like Sharpie signature. While the bill is expected to pass through the Republican-controlled House, it may face obstacles in the Senate, where the GOP is 53 seats short of the 60 votes needed to break the Democratic filibuster. But in the MAGA world, reality has never been a prerequisite for the launch of a product, so bill or no bill, the currency, if not a legitimate currency at all, will take on a life.Trump’s critics immediately embraced this proposal as the most Trumpian thing ever proposed, a personalized birthday party for America complete with guest of honor cake, fireworks, marching band and commemorative merchandise.Within hours, memes began appearing depicting the bill being accepted only at Mar-a-Lago check-ins, cryptocurrency conferences, and civil fraud settlements.Social media, never a sanctuary of restraint, descended into full creative combustion, with one troll suggesting the bill would become “expensive toilet paper” and another mocking that the denomination meant nothing because “nobody in America has exactly $250 except people who pay parking tickets in Manhattan.”The denomination itself has baffled economists and currency experts. The US once printed $500, $1,000, and even $10,000 bills for interbank transfers, before electronic systems made them obsolete. But $250 occupies a strange psychological territory — too big for ordinary transactions, too small for oligarchs, and suspiciously close to the average cost of brunch at a tony Georgetown restaurant.Currency historians also struggled to identify globally comparable odd-numbered notes. Some countries have issued unconventional denominations during periods of hyperinflation or currency transition – Zimbabwe famously produced trillion-dollar notes – but the proposed Trump bill appears to be less an economic instrument than a commemorative refrigerator magnet that accidentally became legal tender. However, the proposal fits into increasingly unrealistic preparations for “USA250,” a nationwide celebration of America’s centennial next year. If you walk through the National Mall today, you won’t see quiet tourists contemplating the delicate experiment of democracy.Instead, cranes are actively assembling a giant steel cage on the South Lawn of the White House for “UFC Freedom 250,” a mixed-martial-arts extravaganza scheduled to take place on June 14 — which is Flag Day, and, completely coincidentally, Trump’s 80th birthday. Nearby, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is currently drained, with bulldozers trying to remove decades of green sludge before the MAGA party begins. However, the official USA250 stage concerts have run into a brick wall of progressive Hollywood solidarity, with the entertainment community, overwhelmingly left-liberal, boycotting most of the official Washington festivities.Instead, a slim list of rookie entertainers will entertain the mostly MAGA crowd expected to descend on the capital. Clearly, as July 4th approaches, the United States is divided: one half is preparing to celebrate 250 years of the constitutional republic, and the other half is trying to figure out how to replace the $250 bill.

Pope Leo XIV and PM Modi give same message on AI: Ethics before efficiency india news

Pope Leo XIV and PM Modi give same message on AI: Ethics before efficiency

New Delhi: Pope Leo XIV’s first major ethical reflection on Artificial Intelligence appears to echo Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated calls for human-centred, ethical and inclusive AI governance, with both leaders warning that the technology should serve people rather than be limited to data, profit or power.in their encyclopedia Magnifica Humanitas: On the Security of the Human Person in the Time of Artificial IntelligencePope leo XIV presents AI as one of the defining ethical questions of the era. The document places human dignity, truth, justice, freedom, action and peace at the center of the AI debate.Even before the Pope, PM ModiIn speeches at global forums including the GPAI Summit, the AI Action Summit in Paris and the India AI Impact Summit 2026, a similar argument was made: AI must remain trusted, safe, inclusive and directed towards public welfare rather than pure commercial or geopolitical competition. The strongest point of convergence is the idea that AI should remain focused on the human person rather than the machine.Pope Leo XIV writes, “In the age of artificial intelligence, when human dignity is threatened by new forms of dehumanization, we have a duty to remain deeply human.”PM Modi had used almost identical framing in a policy context, saying, “Technology exists to serve humanity, not to replace it.”At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, PM Modi described the central challenge as “how to make AI human-centric rather than machine-centric, sensitive and responsible rather than reckless.” The Pope’s warning that no machine can replace “the greatness of humanity” echoes PM Modi’s insistence that technology should enhance, and never eliminate, human judgment and responsibility. The Vatican document repeatedly warns against a “culture of power” driving the AI race, particularly through the concentration of data, computation and technological influence in the hands of a few corporations and states.Pope Leo XIV argues that “technology is never neutral” because it reflects the values and intentions of those who create, finance, and regulate it. He also rejected the idea that ethics could remain a voluntary corporate principle without legal accountability. The Pope writes, “It is not enough to invoke morality in the abstract; what is needed is strong legal frameworks, independent oversight, informed users, and a political system that does not shy away from its responsibility.” He added: “A more ethical AI is not enough if morality is determined by a few people.”PM Modi had similarly argued that AI governance cannot be left to markets or technology companies alone.“Ethics in AI cannot be optional or limited. Benefits must be aligned with purpose,” he said at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.The convergence is particularly visible in how both leaders define the purpose of the technology.Pope Leo XIV writes that technology can “heal, connect, educate and protect our common home,” but warns that it can also “divide, exclude and generate new forms of injustice.”PM Modi has repeatedly referred to the Indian civilizational phrase ‘Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaay’ and said that the ultimate goal of technology should be “welfare of all, happiness of all”.For both, AI is not just an efficiency tool or a race for technological supremacy. Its validity depends on whether it improves health, education, agriculture, public services, climate action and last-mile welfare delivery.Equity and access is another major area of overlap. The Pope warned that when technological goods remain concentrated “in the hands of a few”, new imbalances arise, especially for poor societies and vulnerable populations.PM Modi had given a parallel argument from the perspective of the Global South. Speaking at the GPAI summit in 2023, he warned that unequal access to technology has deepened inequalities over the past century and said humanity must avoid repeating that mistake with AI.“Governance also means ensuring access for all, especially in the Global South,” PM Modi said at the Paris AI Action Summit in 2025.He also called for a global partnership on AI to be more inclusive of developing countries and their priorities. The two leaders also agree on the dangers of dehumanization and reducing humans to algorithmic categories.Pope Leo XIV has cautioned against “the pretense that a single language, even a digital language, can translate into data and display everything, including the mystery of the individual.”PM Modi warned in exactly the same formulation that “AI should not reduce humans to mere data points or raw materials.”While the terminologies are different – metaphysical on the one hand, evolutionary on the other – both reject the same reductionist logic: human identity can be completely quantified, optimized or controlled by machine systems. Both leaders also see risks in implicit bias and exclusion within AI systems that present themselves as objective.Pope warned that AI could reinforce “the stereotypes or ideological biases of its designers and developers” while hiding behind a “veil of neutrality”.PM Modi similarly argued for “quality data sets free from biases”, warning that in a deeply diverse society like India, AI bias can emerge through language, culture, region, gender and socio-economic realities. At the Paris AI Action Summit, they used a simple example to illustrate the problem: If asked to picture someone writing with the left hand, an AI system would likely picture a right-handed person because that’s what the dominant training data shows. The future of work is another point of overlap. The encyclopedia acknowledged widespread concerns over automation, unemployment and de-skilling, warning that job losses are not just an economic problem, but also affecting dignity, families and social fabric.Pope Leo XIV argues that every expansion of automation must be accompanied by protections for employment, retraining, and worker participation.PM Modi had taken a more transition-focused approach, but reached a similar conclusion: “Job loss is the most dangerous disruption of AI. But, history has shown that work does not disappear because of technology. Its nature changes and new types of jobs are created.”He has repeatedly argued that preparation, skill, and human-AI collaboration are the best safeguards against disruption. The convergence ultimately points to a broader global argument: AI governance cannot be left to a handful of companies or powerful states acting alone.Pope Leo XIV called for “shared responsibility and courage” to ensure that technology serves humanity rather than domination or exclusion.PM Modi advocated a global compact on AI based on human oversight, security-by-design, transparency and safeguards against deepfakes, terrorism and criminal abuse.Their proposed MANAV framework – ethical and moral systems, accountable governance, national sovereignty, accessible and inclusive, and legitimate and legitimate AI – translates these principles into the Indian policy idiom. The Pope’s framework emerges from Catholic social teaching rooted in human dignity, solidarity, labor rights and the common good. PM Modi’s framework is inspired by democratic governance, developmental priorities and the civilizational ethos of India.Yet both interventions emerged from the same underlying concern: that artificial intelligence might outgrow the ethical and institutional frameworks needed to control it.Together, both approaches suggest the emergence of a broad global consensus: AI should not become a means of domination, exclusion, or dehumanization. It must remain accountable to the human person.
