Bangladesh recorded their second ODI win over Australia by defeating a depleted Australian team by 86 runs via DLS method in the series opener in Mirpur on Tuesday.Returning to ODI cricket after four years, Mosaddek Hussain scored unbeaten 86 runs on 70 balls. Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 67 runs, while opener Tanjeed Hasan added 54 runs, as Bangladesh posted 284/8.In reply, Australia were restricted to 191/9 in 42.2 overs before play was stopped due to lightning and rain. Chasing 285, Australia still needed 94 runs from 46 balls when the match was stopped and could not be restarted. Cameron Green remained unbeaten after scoring 52 runs on 66 balls.Fast bowler Nahid Rana led the Bangladesh bowling attack with 4/41, regularly touching 140 kilometers per hour. Mosaddek also contributed with the ball and returned figures of 2/37 from his 10 overs.Australia had the worst start while chasing the target when Matthew Short was bowled by Taskin Ahmed on the very first ball of the innings. Connolly and Oliver Peak fell twice before he reached his half-century, while Adam Zampa missed another chance when he was on 73.Shanto also escaped early chances for 9 runs before registering his 12th ODI half-century.For Australia, Nathan Ellis was the most successful bowler with 3/38 after impressing in the recent Pakistan series.The win was Bangladesh’s first ODI win over Australia since 2005. Australia lost the ODI series 2-1 against Pakistan last week and are playing their first bilateral ODI series against Bangladesh in 15 years. The remaining two matches of the series will be played in Mirpur on Thursday and Sunday.
