Pat Cummins offered $4 million deal by Cricket Australia as IPL rival

Pat Cummins has reportedly been offered a lucrative contract extension by Cricket Australia, taking his annual earnings to around AUD 4 million (roughly Rs. 22 crores) per year as the governing body looks to match the growing financial power of franchise cricket and the IPL.

According to a report by Australian outlet The Age, Cummins has been offered a deal until 2029 If signed, it could be worth around AUD 12 million (about Rs 66 crore) over three years.

The proposed extension would reportedly increase Australia’s captain’s salary by approximately AUD 1 million annually due to the demands of the international schedule, which sees Australia play 21 Tests in a 12-month period.

Cummins, who captains In the IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad was retained by the franchise for Rs 18 crore before the season.

The report also states that Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green are among the Australian players expected to get better deals.

Under Cricket Australia’s current memorandum of understanding, the average male retainer before match fees and superannuation is just over AU$1 million annually. Cummins’ proposed contract is also expected to include more guaranteed money, regardless of how much cricket he plays.

Cummins will be 36 by the time the deal expires in 2029.

pressure to conform IPL?

Cricket Australia’s head of cricket James Allsopp admitted the governing body faces increasing pressure from the franchise market, particularly for players capable of performing across all formats.

“It’s a really tricky balancing act. One thing we know is that market pressure is coming to the players who have the most commercial value,” Allsop said.

“Your multi-format players like Pat, Josh [Hazlewood] And Trav, those players are in high demand. So making sure they remain committed to Australian cricket is a really big priority.

Allsop also stressed the importance of rewarding players who continue to attract television viewers and viewers.

“There’s a world now where they can jump onto the franchise circuit and make a really good life away from Australian cricket, or even away from our BBL, and that wouldn’t be in the best interests of Australian cricket,” he said.

Why IPL teams feel home advantage is gone as 220+ scores become the norm

New Delhi: A score of more than 220 seems inevitable in this IPL. Much of this has to do with the type of surfaces that are being produced. While fans and experts are baffled by the insane frequency of these huge scores, there are concerns among a section of the franchise who feel that the idea of home advantage is almost non-existent now. Go beyond limits with our YouTube channel. Subscribe now! This is due to the strict measures taken by the Indian Cricket Board (bcci) To keep franchises away from interfering in the preparation of pitches. On Tuesday night, the Delhi Capitals coach talked about the unpredictability of the surface at the Ferozshah Kotla, where they have lost four of their five matches this season.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s India debut: Calls are increasing

“As much as one would like to think that we have control over the surface on which we want to play, the BCCI has a clear mandate that they look after the surfaces and they are the ones who ensure that there is no local side that gets an advantage from the surfaces. So you play what is presented in front of you. And yes, it has been a bit of an ups and downs for us to understand what we are going to get in Delhi, which is our home,” Badani said after their defeat. Chennai Super Kings On Tuesday. “There has been one game where we scored 75 runs. The target of 265 runs was chased in one game. Again, it was a surface that spun. Ideally, you want to have some consistency. It’s not about us. I think the whole competition is quite neutral that way,” he said. BCCI recommendations favor high-scoring games TOI understands that the recommendations shared by the board suggest that there should be minimal help for the bowlers. The BCCI has adopted its policy from domestic cricket and implemented it in the IPL, where a curator from the board will be at the venue along with the local curator, so that there is not much interference. During the IPL playoffs and finals, the board’s central team of curators will completely take over the venues. The recommendations suggested that boundaries should be no longer than 77 meters and that pitches should provide less lateral movement and not excessive spin. There should be uniform grass cover on the pitches so that the pitches do not remain dry. “There are some teams who have a strong spin-bowling attack. They would prefer slightly slower and duller pitches.” Some teams have a very powerful seam attack and like a little more help for the new ball bowlers. But now every pitch is almost the same. It doesn’t matter whether a team is traveling or not. Players expect similar conditions at all venues,” a franchise member involved in the development told TOI. Another franchise member said that this is why whenever the bowlers have got a little help, an embarrassing situation has arisen. A franchise source said, “The batsmen go in with the expectation that the pitch will play true and flat. But whenever the bowlers have a little more purchase from the pitch, they struggle to adapt.” Now that the tournament is nearing its conclusion and the heat is rising, the pitches are going to get tiring and the scores are expected to be quite low. It will be interesting to see if the franchises and BCCI can find a middle path and provide some home advantage.

How SRH found their best rhythm with the bat in IPL 2026

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, it is no longer about going hard or going home. The 2024 finalists, who redefined batting in the Indian Premier League, are no longer the team that simply bangs or fails. After defeating Punjab Kings on May 6 to top the table, SRH have found their sweet spot with consistent high scores this season.

After their all-out aggressive approach backfired and fell out of the playoff spots in 2025, the think tank recalibrated. They have found a more sustainable path while still maintaining their original philosophy.

SRH vs PBKS: highlighted | Achievement:

Out of their 11 matches this season, SRH have fallen short of the 200-run mark only three times. The Pat Cummins-led side has always had tremendous batting ability, but it is their consistency that has made them particularly dangerous this year. They seem to be improving in every game since Cummins’ return, a trend that bodes well heading into the playoffs.

separating the openers from the rest

A major factor behind SRH’s success has been the measured approach of the middle order, which has been tasked with assessing conditions and setting realistic targets during the middle overs. This allows openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head to continue their ultra-aggressive approach, while players like Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan adapt to the demands of the surface and match conditions.

This marks a change from the last two seasons, when SRH attacked consistently from start to finish. While that approach caught teams by surprise in 2024, opponents adjusted in 2025 and exposed a significant flaw in their methodology.

Cummins acknowledged this development after victory over punjabExplaining how the team has clearly defined roles within the batting unit.

Cummins said, “We are very good at playing at our own pace. We don’t try to start conservatively. That’s not really Abhi and Travis’ style. It’s about trying to maximize as much as possible.”

The SRH captain said that the team does not enter the game with any fixed target in mind, but rather adjusts as the innings progresses.

“Not really thinking about the total score or anything, and then maybe later in the innings if it takes a different direction, we’ve been very good at making adjustments,” he said.

Klaasen comes for SRH

The main reason for this success is Klaasen, at number 4, who has scored 494 runs in 11 matches. Interestingly, he softened his approach a bit and scored a score of 157, which is slightly below his usual standards.

SRH have also benefited from the consistent contributions of Abhishek and Kishan, who are second and fourth in the run scorer list this season. Abhishek has scored 475 runs at a strike rate of 210, while Kishan has scored 409 runs at a strike rate of 186, indicating a subtle change in the team’s batting approach.

Their bowling unit has also performed well, with uncapped players performing significantly throughout the season. The team has looked more balanced since moving away from the inclusion of Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat in the starting lineup, which has helped them produce strong results.

Cummins said, “We have played very good cricket here in Hyderabad over the last few years. It suits our style. Even tonight it took a bit of grip, which suited a lot of our bowlers in the end.”

With the win over Punjab, SRH now have 14 points from 11 matches and are very close to a playoff spot. They have three group stage matches remaining against Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore.

New Delhi: Punjab Kings spinner Yuzvendra Chahal His performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad was disappointing as his teammates repeatedly dropped catches off his bowling. SRH batsmen took full advantage of those missed chances and posted a mammoth total of 235 runs on a batting-friendly Hyderabad pitch.Dropped catches became a major talking point, especially because Chahal had created many wicket-taking opportunities. However, the match was lost due to poor fielding by Punjab.

IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad punish poor PBKS to top the table

Brief Scores, SRH vs PBKS: Sunrisers Hyderabad (235 for 4 in 20 overs) beat Punjab Kings (202 for 7 in 20 overs) by 33 runs in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

If you think dropping catches is the only way fielding can hurt a team, Punjab Kings have come up with a warning that good chances can do just as much damage. On a warm evening at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, PBKS found themselves on the wrong side of that contradiction. While they missed crucial chances, Sunrisers Hyderabad caught them with assurance, and that contradiction told the story as they registered a 33-run win to top the table.

SRH vs PBK: highlighted | Achievement:

In T20 cricket, catches are what win you the game. But here, he shaped the competition in more ways than one. Chasing a challenging target of over 200, the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings, in this season of the Indian Premier League, looked like a team you would normally count on to achieve it. This has been his identity this season, fearless in scoring goals, clinical under pressure.

Yet, standing in his way was Pat Cummins, a captain who has built a reputation for calming down surging opposition. And on this night, as they have so often, Cummins and his men came up with a plan, and had the discipline to execute it when it mattered most.

Cooper Connolly did his best to rectify earlier shortcomings in the field for PBKS. However, his maternal IPL A century can only compensate for the damage done to his net run rate. The Australian remained unbeaten on 107 as wickets continued to fall at the other end.

trivishek vs prabharya

On a batting-friendly surface at Uppal, the stage was set for a Travishack vs Chargeds encounter. However, only one party appeared. While SRH’s opening stand did not last long, it was enough to cause early damage to the PBKS bowlers, who have faced a tough time in the powerplay this season.

SRH ‘Brothers of Destruction’ reach lead of 54 runs In just 21 balls before Abhishek Sharma was out. PBKS bowlers had a clear plan: keep it short and make it difficult to hit. But before any mistakes could be made, the duo had already punished them all around the field. Abhishek scored 35 runs in 13 balls before mistiming the ball of Lockie Ferguson.

Soon after Abhishek’s dismissal, Travis Head took charge and carried the pace. He scored 38 runs in 19 balls before missing the ball from Yuzvendra Chahal.

In contrast, PBKS openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya returned to the pavilion within the first seven balls of the chase. They could score only four runs between themselves, which is their lowest combined opening score in an IPL innings since 2024.

cummins masterclass

While dropped chances grabbed the attention, Cummins’ tactical genius stood out. His team did their homework to dismantle the PBKS batting unit chasing a big target, Like his effort against Delhi CapitalsEasily this season.

SRH read the conditions well and stuck to their plans. The bowlers scored runs consistently, breaking the backbone of PBKS’s chase. Cummins’ captaincy shone, whether it was laying the net for Arya, who top-edged a pull, or handing the ball to Reddy, who struck with his very first ball.

The Australian captain was named player of the match for his excellent performance in defending the target. Against a team that makes chasing targets easier on flat pitches.

The price of the discarded catch is 235

If PBKS thought bowling was their only concern, they were in for a long night. Dropped catches and a missed stumping allowed SRH to go free. Punjab has dropped around 16 to 17 catches this season.

After Travishack’s departure, Ishan Kishan combined with Heinrich Klaasen to deepen PBKS’s misery. The pair put on a partnership of 88 runs off 48 balls and pushed the game beyond reach. Both completed their half-centuries with ease as PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting watched helplessly.

Klaasen said after the innings, “The ball got softer and started to stop a bit in the middle overs. But I still want to keep it in my pocket and take it everywhere. It’s a medium pace wicket. Great to bat on.”

Klaasen’s 69 off 43 proved decisive, leaving Ponting and Iyer little room to respond. Nitish Kumar Reddy gave the finishing touch and remained unbeaten after scoring 29 runs in 13 balls. With this, SRH maintained its dominance over Punjab in Uppal.

With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad move to 14 points with three games remaining, while Punjab Kings, who have made a great start to the season, move to 13 points with four matches left.

New Delhi: Yuzvendra Chahal I could only watch in disbelief as another catch went into the depths. Punjab Kings may have entered their crucial match against Sunrisers Hyderabad with playoff ambitions, but their fielding effort threatened to spoil all plans in just a few overs. The statistics make the story even uglier for Punjab Kings. So far this season, six catches have been missed off Chahal’s bowling, which is the most for any bowler in IPL 2026.Shashank Singh He has already dropped four catches this year alone, which is the second highest number of catches dropped by any fielder after Mumbai Indians’ Naman Dheer.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi dragged into child labor controversy, activist demands FIR on IPL tenure

A legal controversy has erupted over 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi after a Karnataka-based social activist sought an FIR over the youngster’s participation in the Indian Premier League, alleging that allowing a minor to play in professional tournaments is tantamount to child labour.

Suryavanshi, one of the breakout stars of IPL 2026, Activist CM Shivkumar Nayak has found himself at the center of an unexpected legal debate after filing a complaint questioning whether a minor should be allowed to participate in a high-profile professional sports league.

Nayak has sought to file an FIR arguing that minors should not be involved in large-scale commercial sporting events and Suryavanshi’s IPL Participation may be a violation of child labor laws.

However, the complaint has sparked sharp criticism online, with many users strongly objecting to the comparison between child labor and professional sports.

One user argued that if a young athlete earns his place through skill, contracts and rules, “it’s not exploitation, it’s an opportunity,” adding that by the same logic, every under-18 athlete representing India should also be questioned.

Another reported that 15-year-old Suryavanshi falls in the juvenile category and is participating in a professional sports league with the consent of both his parents and himself, arguing that such participation cannot be equated with child labour.

Others drew parallels with Indian cricket’s past, pointing to players such as Sachin Tendulkar and Parthiv Patel, both of whom achieved success at young ages, with many questioning why a similar debate had not emerged then.

A large portion of the online reaction focused on the need to protect and nurture exceptional sporting talent rather than drag young athletes into legal disputes.

What do the rules say?

The debate has also drawn renewed attention to the ICC’s rules on age eligibility in cricket.

In November 2020, the ICC introduced minimum age restrictions for international cricket, stating that players must be at least 15 years of age to play any form of men’s, women’s or under-19 international cricket.

“The Board has confirmed the introduction of a minimum age restriction for international cricket to improve player safety,” the ICC said in its official statement.

The rule applies to ICC events, bilateral cricket and Under-19 international matches, and was introduced primarily as a player welfare measure.

Importantly, this rule applies only to international cricket and does not govern domestic franchise leagues like the IPL, where Suryavanshi has emerged as one of the standout performers this season.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi in IPL

This is what makes the legal complaint particularly controversial.

Suryavanshi has been one of the best players of IPL 2026 And one of the biggest stories of the season. The teenager has scored 400 runs in 10 matches at an average of 40 and a whopping strike rate of 237, making him a strong contender for the Orange Cap.

Already a key player for Rajasthan Royals at the age of just 15, Suryavanshi has not only justified the hype around him but has emerged as one of the central figures in their playoff push.

IPL Final Venue: Why Bengaluru lost the right to host IPL 2026 final to Ahmedabad. cricket news

बेंगलुरु ने आईपीएल 2026 के फाइनल की मेजबानी का अधिकार अहमदाबाद से क्यों खो दिया?In an official media advisory issued on Tuesday, the BCCI confirmed that the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the IPL 2026 final on May 31, despite Bengaluru being initially named as the venue.

Operational and logical reasons for the shift

“Bengaluru was originally nominated to host the final. However, due to certain requirements of the local association and officials, which were beyond the scope of BCCI’s established guidelines and protocols, the venue has been shifted and rescheduled,” the advisory said.

‘Perform or perish’, feels Hemang Badani as DC faces must-win situation

As reported by The TimesofIndia.com earlier todayIt is understood that the ongoing administrative glitch over tickets at the Chinnaswamy Stadium forced the board to shift the title match back to the venue which had hosted the final of the 2025 edition. The move also means Ahmedabad will host the IPL final for the fourth time in five seasons, having previously played for the title clash in 2022, 2023, 2025 and now 2026.Interestingly, this is not the first time that the traditional ‘defending champion hosts the final’ convention has been ignored.

Why should Ahmedabad host the IPL final in 2022 and 2025?

After Chennai Super Kings won IPL 2021, there were hopes that Chennai could host the 2022 final when the tournament fully returns to India after the pandemic disruption. Instead, the BCCI awarded Ahmedabad the hosting rights for the playoffs and finals. However, reports at the time and BCCI’s scheduling decisions pointed towards a combination of post-COVID logistics planning and crowd capacity.IPL 2022 was held under significant operational precautions even after the pandemic. The league stage was largely confined to venues in Maharashtra to minimize travel and bio-bubble complications. When the playoff venues were announced, Kolkata hosted Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator, while Ahmedabad hosted Qualifier 2 and the final.A similar situation emerged in IPL 2025. Eden Gardens was originally allotted Qualifier 2 and the Final under the normal hosting tradition, after Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL 2024 trophy. But the temporary suspension of the tournament following India-Pakistan tensions forced the BCCI to extend the season window from May 25 to June 3, making scheduling and logistics quite complex. That detail immediately brought weather to mind. With the southwest monsoon predicted to arrive soon in eastern India, concerns have grown over rain disruption in Kolkata during the final week of the tournament. In comparison, Ahmedabad was seen as a safer option in terms of weather.

DC vs CSK, IPL 2026 | Why does Karthik Sharma fit into CSK’s long-term plans? Ex-IND cricketer explains

Karthik Sharma became the joint-most expensive uncapped Indian player in IPL history when Chennai Super Kings spent Rs 14.2 crore for the youngster in the auction. With that price tag also came enormous expectations, scrutiny and pressure. But after a slow start to IPL 2026, Karthik is finally beginning to justify the faith shown in him by CSK, and former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar believes there cannot be a better franchise for the youngster to develop his game.

Karthik could only score 58 runs in his first five matches and looked like another young player struggling to adapt to the intensity and demands. IPL. Yet, unlike many franchises who quickly move on from underperforming youngsters, CSK remained patient.

The franchise not only stuck with him but also trusted him with one of the most important roles in the batting order, number 4.

That trust has started bearing fruit.

In the last two matches of Chennai Super Kings Karthik looks much more confident and calmGuided the successful target chase with unbeaten innings of 54 against Mumbai Indians and 41 against Delhi Capitals away from home.

More than the runs, it was the maturity and calmness that came through in those innings. According to Bangar, this growth is directly linked to the environment provided by CSK.

“I think he’s in the right franchise as well because it’s a franchise that will give him a lot of opportunities and he doesn’t really have to worry about his spot,” Bangar said on JioStar.

“There is a sense of security when you are part of the CSK setup, and he has developed with every game he has played.”

Bangar also talked about one technical aspect of Karthik’s batting that has impressed him.

“It’s a good thing to see that he wants to hit a lot of balls straight down the ground with the bat and he backs up his power. So for me that’s a standout trait,” he explained.

The former India batting coach believes that Karthik is still scratching the surface of his potential and fits in with the traditionally long-form CSK players.

“He is a work in progress. He is going to get even better and that is the kind of player CSK ideally wants. This has been their blueprint for many years,” Bangar said.

“Someone like him at No. 4 fits perfectly into their plans.”

For now, CSK’s patience with Karthik Sharma is starting to look like a long-term investment that may pay off on a large scale in the coming years.
