Lucknow: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Satish Kumar Sharma, a nominated member of the Meerut Cantonment Board, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a contractor for the smooth conduct of the tender related to parking, canteen and entry fee collection operations at Gandhi Bagh in Meerut Cantonment.According to the CBI, the agency had registered a corruption case against Sharma on May 29, 2026, following allegations that he had sought illegal gratification from the complainant. The complainant was running a private firm on behalf of his mother, which was given the contract for management of parking facilities, canteen services and entry fee collection at Gandhi Bagh.The agency alleged that Sharma demanded Rs 3 lakh from the contractor in return for uninterrupted continuation of the tender and related works.Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on May 29. During the operation, the agency officials caught the accused red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 3 lakh from the complainant.The accused was taken into custody after a successful trap operation. CBI officials said Sharma has been arrested and is being produced before the competent court in Ghaziabad.The agency has not disclosed whether any additional public servants or private individuals are under investigation in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the alleged bribery transaction and any possible wider conspiracy.CBI said that investigation is going on in the case.
