New Delhi: The National Testing Agency on Friday told a parliamentary committee that it is taking measures to prevent a repeat of the NEET paper leak that affected lakhs of students, while the National Medical Commission said it will work to keep the admission seat matrix for counseling on schedule so that students are not further affected.In his comments to the parliamentary committee on government assurances, CBI Director Praveen Sood said the investigating agency will take its investigation to its logical conclusion amid the possibility of more arrests, people in the know said.While the committee’s agenda was related to the irregularities in the NEET 2024 paper, its members expressed displeasure over the latest leak, which led to the exam being canceled and re-conducted on June 21, and questioned the authorities on the current scrutiny and measures being taken to make the exam foolproof.NTA, represented by DG Abhishek Singh and others, said NEET’s switch to CBT (computer-based testing) from next year, with a more extensive pool of questions, will lead to a larger number of JEE-like test papers, which is likely to reduce the risk of leaks.Secretaries of higher education and health ministries were among the officials who appeared before the committee headed by AIADMK’s M Thambi Durai, as MPs asked them to ensure that counseling is conducted on time and the seat matrix distribution of seats in different categories is accordingly.NMC President Abhijat Chandrakant Sheth assured them that appropriate steps would be taken.And the NTA said it is in active consultation with other stakeholders to promote a more secure examination system.
