Chadayamangalam assembly constituency is a general seat in Kollam district of Kerala, comprising Chadayamangalam, Chitra, Elmad, Ittiva, Kadakkal, Nilamel, Velinallur panchayats and parts of Alaimon, where rubber plantations and rural farming communities shape its politics.Congress’s MM Naseer emerged the winner in Kerala’s Chadayamangalam, defeating CPI’s J Chinchurani by 7,486 votes. MM Naseer got 68,281 votes, while J. Chinchurani got 60,795 votes. The current MLA is J Chinchu Rani of CPI, elected in 2021 with 67,252 votes (45.69 per cent), defeating Congress’s MM Naseer (53,574 votes, 36.40 per cent) by 13,678 votes, while BJP’s Vishnu Pattathanam got 22,238 votes (15.11 per cent), amid a voter turnout of 71.75 per cent.For the 2026 elections, the participating candidates are J Chinchu Rani (CPI), MM Naseer (Congress), RS Arun Raj (BJP) and Sharafat Mallam (SDPI).Major issues include damage to crops due to flooding of the Kallada River; Poor rural road connectivity is hindering agricultural exports; Youth unemployment despite remittances from Gulf countries; irregular water supply and sanitation gaps; Overburdened PHCs; Rivers are being polluted by illegal mining; Monsoon power cuts; Rising land prices are troubling small farmers; traffic near markets; And inadequate public transport is challenging the rural economy of this LDF stronghold.
