Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment on Tuesday arrested a contractual clerk of Maharaja Suhail Dev University. AzamgarhFor taking a bribe of ₹50,000 in the registrar office.According to officials, Surendra Singh, manager of Ram Badan Singh Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Raunapar (Kadipur), Azamgarh, had approached vigilance officials and alleged that a bribe of ₹3 lakh was being demanded by Registrar Dr Anjani Mishra to extend the permanent affiliation of his college by one year.The victim alleges that this amount has been sent through a clerk. SanjayWho worked in the registrar’s office.Acting on the written complaint, vigilance officials conducted a discreet verification, which confirmed the allegations.Subsequently, a trap was laid and Sanjay was arrested while taking ₹50,000 in cash as part of the alleged bribe.During the search of his cupboard, the vigilance team also recovered additional ₹1,87,500, which is suspected to be illegal money. The accused reportedly failed to give a satisfactory explanation about the recovered cash.Officials indicated that the role of the Registrar and other individuals named in the complaint were being investigated.A case has been registered against the accused and further legal action is underway.The vigilance establishment reiterated its commitment to crack down on corruption and urged citizens to report any demand for bribe by public servants on its anti-corruption helpline numbers: 9454401866 and 9454401870.
