Dhubri: A vibrant celebration of culture and unity was witnessed in Dhubri as Bohag Bihu and Bengali New Year were celebrated aboard the ship MV Pratima on the Brahmaputra on Wednesday evening.The nearly four-hour long event was filled with vibrant Bihu dances, soulful songs and captivating musical and cultural performances presented by the artistes of Nrityangan, a Dhubri-based socio-cultural organization.Veteran educationist Pratima Niyogi extended greetings on the occasion and highlighted the symbolic importance of the celebration. He described it as a confluence of cultures on the Brahmaputra.Niyogi said, “Just as countless rivers and streams merge into the Brahmaputra, diverse cultures come together in Dhubri on this special day.”Chief guest Bimal Oswal, Director (Independent), NEEPCO and Principal, IPICO echoed his sentiments. He emphasized that such unique cultural unity can bring this annual event on the tourism map of Assam.Oswal said, “This festival beautifully connects communities. Rongali Bihu is the biggest festival of Assam, while Poila Boishakh holds deep emotional significance in Bengal. This rare cultural union is uniquely celebrated in Dhubri.”Speaking to TOI, Nrityaangan coordinator Dipankar Majumdar said the event, which has been organized over the years, has been receiving support from people from different communities. “Our aim is to spread the message of cultural harmony and secure a place for the event on the tourism map,” he said.Cultural groups including Ghunghru dance group participated in the programme, leaving the audience spellbound.
