A football fan will be paid $50,000 to watch every match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Fox Sports announced A nationwide search is underway for what is being called “Fox One’s Chief World Cup Watcher Hired Through Indeed.” The temporary role, created in partnership with Fox One and Indeed, will require the successful applicant to watch all 104 matches of the expanded tournament during next summer’s World Cup in North America. The fan selected for the role will watch the match live in 4K via Fox One from a custom-built glass viewing area in New York City’s Times Square, with the tournament scheduled to begin exactly a month from now. The job also includes creating social media content throughout the competition, with FOX expecting the successful applicant to share reactions, commentary and watch-party style content while following each match throughout the tournament schedule.

The move comes as supporters are already making travel plans for the World Cup, although many fan groups have raised concerns over the price of tickets in recent months, particularly on resale platforms where costs have increased significantly for high-demand matches. Fox Sports marketing president Robert Gottlieb described the situation as part of the broadcaster’s broader plans for the tournament. “This FIFA World Cup will be a historic tournament that demands equally historic officiating,” Gottlieb said in a press release. “An engaged applicant will have the work of a lifetime to experience and celebrate every story, every country and every exhilarating moment that defines the beautiful game.” Applicants are instructed to update or create an Indeed profile by May 17, including any relevant experience or skills that can support their application for the role. Fox and Indeed have encouraged fans to upload a short video to social media using the hashtag #ChiefWorldCupWatcher explaining why they should be selected.

The work starts before the tournament starts

The appointment to the role will officially begin on June 6, a week before the World Cup begins, and FOX plans to publicly reveal the successful applicant during its broadcast of the New York Yankees against the Boston Red Sox. This role will continue until July 26, a week after the World Cup final. Fox confirmed that the viewing setup will function as a personal office and viewing area located directly in Times Square, allowing successful fans to watch every game while interacting with supporters online throughout the tournament.
