Gold ornaments worth Rs 35 lakh stolen from Bengaluru villa

Bengaluru: A family made a shocking discovery after thieves broke into their villa in North Bengaluru on the morning of June 5 and made off with gold jewelery worth Rs 30-35 lakh.According to the complaint filed by owner Rohit Basumatary, 38, a resident of Prestige Oasis Villa on Ede Viswanathpura Road in Rajanukunte, the family had gone to sleep around 10 pm on June 4. Shortly before dawn, the thieves entered the house through the kitchen door while the occupants were sleeping in a bedroom.The intruders reportedly entered the main bedroom through the house, where they targeted valuables kept inside the cupboard. Basumatary told police that the thieves made away with a large quantity of gold jewellery, including a 30 gram necklace, earrings, several jewelery sets, gold chains, pendants and eight pairs of earrings.Police said the value of the stolen goods was between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh, making it one of the major domestic thefts in the area in recent months. The incident came to light when the family woke up around five in the morning.When they checked the CCTV cameras installed at the residence, they found footage of two suspects entering the house around 1.20 am. The thieves, dressed in hoodies and jeans, had their faces covered with cloth.Rajanukunte police registered a case under BNS sections 331(4) (punishment for house-trespass or house-breaking) and 305 (theft in a dwelling house, or means of transport, or place of worship, etc.).with input from Swati Satish Kumar
