New Delhi: Between NFHS-5 (2019-21) and NFHS-6 (2023-24), the share of Indian women using the internet almost doubled from 33.3% to 64.3%, preschool attendance of children aged two to four years increased from 40.1% to 47% and the proportion of women with 10 or more years of schooling increased from 41%. It became 46.4%.The latest National Family Health Survey shows that India is witnessing a quiet but significant change in both education and digital access for girls and women. Yet beneath the national gains, the survey reveals sharp inequalities that are shaping educational opportunities across the country, with school attendance for girls aged 6 and above standing at 84.3% in urban India, compared to 69.2% in rural areas.
