He said that the return journey was changed after the alert. “The plane changed its route, landed in Mashhad, and the delegation was transferred by train and vehicles to Tehran.”Marandi also pointed to the timing of the developments, linking it to broader diplomatic tensions. “The conversation ended very abruptly … and it was with an opinion piece published in the Washington Post,” he said, adding, “It was very close to the CIA.”Explaining the withdrawal, he said the delegation chose to proceed despite the risks. He said, “So the Iranians certainly felt threatened…everybody got on the plane. Nobody wanted to stay in Pakistan and everybody was willing to take the risk.”He also mentioned Iranian citizens during recent tensions and said the delegation remained calm despite the danger. “The delegation was very determined and everyone on the flight was very excited,” Marandi said.
