In Khardaha, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kalyan Chakraborty won with 97,752 votes, defeating All India Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) Devdeep Purohit, who had secured 73,266 votes, by a margin of 24,486 votes.Khardaha is an assembly seat (number 109) in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. It is part of the Dumdum Lok Sabha constituency and covers Khardaha Municipality and surrounding urban areas. The predominantly urban seat (89 per cent urban) has about 240,672 voters and 241 polling stations, with SC 14.93 per cent and ST 1.7 per cent population. In 2021, 78.76 percent voting took place. In the 2021 main election (before the November by-election), TMC’s Kajal Sinha won with 89,807 votes (49 per cent share), defeating BJP’s Shilabhadra Dutta (61,667 votes, 34 per cent) by 28,140 votes. TMC has been in possession of the urban seat since 2011. However, Sinha died due to Covid in April 2021. Then TMC won this seat again in the by-election and Sovandeb Chattopadhyay became MLA.
